Software Development Engineer (Java Backend)

CostRoom is building a modern procurement and spend optimization platform that helps businesses manage and optimize their SaaS, Cloud, and AI spend across the entire lifecycle from sourcing and procurement to usage, contracts, renewals, and optimization.

We are building the platform from the ground up and are looking for a

Java Backend Engineer

who enjoys solving complex problems, taking end-to-end ownership, and shipping production-ready systems quickly.

This is not a maintenance or support role. You will build the core backend infrastructure that directly powers customer workflows, analytics, automation, and cost optimization.

What You’ll Build

You will design, develop, and scale backend systems powering:

• Cloud-based data ingestion and processing pipelines

• Cost analytics, reporting, and optimization engines

• Procurement workflows and approval automation

• Vendor, contract, and renewal management systems

• Secure and high-performance REST APIs

• Integrations with SaaS platforms, cloud providers, and enterprise systems

What You’ll Own

• Take features from idea to architecture, development, deployment, and monitoring

• Build clean, scalable, and production-grade backend services

• Improve system performance across APIs, databases, queries, and data pipelines

• Make practical architectural decisions in a fast-moving product environment

• Work hands-on with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure

• Establish strong engineering practices around testing, reliability, and code quality

• Collaborate directly with founders, architecture leaders, product teams, and junior engineers

• Mentor engineers and contribute to the long-term technical direction of the platform

What We’re Looking For

• 4–6\+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering

• Strong expertise in Java 11/17 or later

• Solid understanding of multithreading, concurrency, data structures, and system design

• Strong hands-on experience with:

• Spring Boot

• Hibernate / JPA

• PostgreSQL or Oracle

• MongoDB or other NoSQL databases

• Experience designing scalable REST APIs and system integrations

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture

• Exposure to AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform

• Experience with Maven or Gradle, Git, JUnit, and Mockito

• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and execution skills
