Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and optimize Freight Management operations within a complex, fast‑paced transportation environment. This role is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day operational performance while ensuring safe, compliant, and cost‑effective movement of freight. The successful candidate will drive service excellence, operational discipline, and continuous improvement across inbound and outbound activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and manage Freight Management operations to ensure service commitments are consistently met or exceeded, with a strong focus on safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure freight flows are executed in compliance with all applicable transportation, rail, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Own operational performance against service, cost, and productivity targets; actively manage expenses and support profitability objectives.
  • Plan and adjust daily staffing levels based on volumes, operational demands, and service requirements.
  • Establish clear expectations and ensure procedures, work rules, and directives are consistently communicated and followed.
  • Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring safety programs, practices, and training are fully implemented and sustained.
  • Ensure equipment, tools, yards, terminals, and facilities are properly maintained, inspected, and safe for daily use.
  • Oversee administrative and operational documentation to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams and external stakeholders as needed to resolve operational issues and maintain service continuity.
  • Coach, develop, and mentor frontline leaders and supervisors; support performance management and talent development activities.

Qualifications

Education \& Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in transportation, logistics, Ground, Rail, or related operations.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience in an operational environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in Freight Management or Ground operations strongly preferred.

Credentials

  • Forklift or equipment certifications preferred (as applicable to the operation).
  • Additional industry or safety certifications may be required based on the operating environment.

Skills \& Capabilities

  • Strong understanding of operational controls, safety compliance, and transportation regulations.
  • Proven ability to manage staffing, labor planning, and operational costs.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing budgets, revenue, and expense performance.
  • Ability to interpret business metrics, operational reports, and regulatory documentation.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and operational systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report and SOP development.
