Role Overview

As a Distribution Designer focused on Joint Use Make Ready projects, you will support utility and telecommunications infrastructure initiatives by developing accurate, high-quality design packages that ensure safe and reliable attachment placement on utility distribution systems. Working with utility clients, engineering teams, and telecommunications providers, you will evaluate existing pole infrastructure, apply National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements, perform pole loading analysis, and develop make-ready solutions that support network expansion while maintaining system integrity and safety.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys solving technical challenges, working independently in a remote environment, and contributing to projects that support critical utility and communications infrastructure.

How You Will Make an Impact

• Develop Joint Use Make Ready designs for utility and telecommunications attachment projects using client-specific software platforms and engineering design standards.
• Evaluate overhead distribution facilities and pole attachments to determine make-ready requirements and ensure compliance with utility construction standards.
• Apply NESC clearances, utility design requirements, and industry best practices when developing pole attachment and framing solutions.
• Perform pole modeling and structural analysis to evaluate existing pole capacity and identify required modifications or replacements.
• Prepare and maintain project documentation, design packages, sketches, reports, and supporting records necessary for project execution.
• Review design deliverables to verify accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with safety and engineering standards.
• Collaborate with utility clients, project managers, engineers, and remote team members to meet project schedules, quality expectations, and customer requirements.

What You Will Bring

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in utility distribution design, joint use make ready engineering, pole loading analysis, or related power delivery work.
• Working knowledge of overhead electric distribution systems and utility infrastructure.
• Familiarity with National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements and utility joint use standards.
• Experience performing pole loading or structural analysis using utility-approved software platforms.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, high-quality work within established deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Acrobat.
• Ability to learn and effectively utilize proprietary utility software and client systems.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with remote teams and project stakeholders.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting telecommunications make-ready programs.
• Previous work with electric utility joint use, pole attachment, broadband deployment, or distribution engineering projects.
• Familiarity with utility GIS, staking, work management, and design platforms.
• Associate's degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Utility Design, GIS, or a related field.

Work Environment \& Preferences

• Work Model: Remote
• Preferred Schedule: Full-time
• Travel Requirements: Limited travel may be required for training, project meetings, or occasional field verification activities.
• Physical Requirements: Primarily computer-based work with extended periods of sitting and screen use. Occasional field visits may require walking uneven terrain and utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
