Position Summary

Bay Electric Co., Inc. is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our accounting team on site in Newport News, VA. This position assists with the day-to-day management of the accounting function, financial reporting, payroll administration, contract billings, and compliance activities in a fast-paced construction environment.

The Assistant Controller works closely with leadership, accounting staff, and external auditors to maintain accurate financial records, support reporting requirements, and ensure adherence to accounting standards and internal controls.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly and quarterly financial statements
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Process weekly payroll and related tax filings
  • Administer employee benefit accounting and reporting activities
  • Prepare and review monthly contract billings
  • Assist with financial reporting, budgeting, and special accounting projects
  • Support annual financial audits and coordinate with external auditors
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal control procedures
  • Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to support business decisions
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and company information
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Experience with payroll processing and tax filings
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Preferred

  • CPA designation
  • Construction industry accounting experience
  • Knowledge of corporate, partnership, and individual taxation
  • Experience with job costing, contract billings, and construction financial reporting

Pay: From $70,000\.00 per year
