Position Summary
1,4GROUP is a leading company in potato storage management. Through collaboration with industry partners and leading university researchers, we are committed to the ongoing development and improvement of sprout-inhibiting chemicals that protect the quality and shelf life of potatoes.
We are seeking a qualified Analytical Chemist to support the analysis of food crops and contribute to research and development efforts. This position is responsible for method development, analytical testing, and routine laboratory operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Method Development \& R\&D
· Develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods using HPLC and/or GC-MS for the detection and quantification of sprout-inhibiting compounds and related chemistries
· Perform extraction and quantification of analytes across a variety of sample matrices
· Conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis and prepare reports
· Lead research initiatives to identify and characterize new chemical candidates for commercialization
· Follow project protocols and direction from the Project Manager
· Interpret analytical data to support R\&D decision-making
Analytical Testing \& Customer Support
· Perform routine and non-routine analysis of customer samples to evaluate product efficacy and performance
· Deliver high-quality, defensible data with strong attention to accuracy and turnaround time
· Collaborate with internal teams to support customer-related technical needs
Laboratory Operations
· Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation (HPLC, GC-MS, and related systems)
· Maintain accurate and organized documentation of methods, data, and procedures in accordance with internal standards
· Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
· Maintain laboratory organization, inventory management, and calibration schedules
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry or a related field
· 3\+ years of hands-on analytical laboratory experience
· Hands-on experience with HPLC and/or GC-MS instrumentation
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
· Ability to lift 25 lbs in various work environments (laboratory, warehouse, field, and office)
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with pesticide residue or trace-level analysis (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, Fluorometry, IR)
· Familiarity with agricultural chemistry, crop protection, or post-harvest systems
· Experience working with complex or variable sample matrices
· Demonstrated ability to solve complex analytical challenges and improve existing methods
