Job Description

At Syngenta, our goal is to build the most collaborative and trustworthy team in agriculture, providing top-quality seeds and innovative crop protection solutions that improve farmers' success. To support this mission, Syngenta's Research Chemistry Team is seeking an Analytical Scientist in Greensboro, NC. This role will support Product Chemistry Formulation (PCF) projects to enable product registrations in countries outside of North America.

The Analytical Scientist will perform a wide variety of physical properties analyses (e.g. wet chemistry) on chemical pesticides and biological pesticides, using internationally recognized physical test methods (e.g. CIPAC, ASTM, etc.). This role also includes chromatographic analyses for active ingredient content (gas chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography).

The successful candidate will be responsible for generating fully GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) compliant raw data, protocols and reports, for submission to regulatory authorities as part of new product development projects, regulatory data call-ins, etc. This role is expected to work independently on daily tasks, while contributing to the delivery of each project as part of a highly collaborative team environment.

Accountabilities

  • Perform physical properties testing and active ingredient content analysis of formulated products accurately, with minimal supervision.
  • Strictly adhere to GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) regulatory standards independently, throughout all lab related activities.
  • Develop expertise in a wide variety of internationally recognized analytical methods (e.g. CIPAC methods, etc.), strictly adhering to these methodologies.
  • Organize raw data into GLP compliant raw data packets / dossiers and generate high-quality study reports.
  • Develop proficiency with computer/software platforms such as Microsoft Office software, Chromeleon chromatography software, StarLims, and various other internal platforms.
  • Ensure effective problem solving and independent follow-up when unexpected situations arise during testing (e.g. unanticipated test results, etc.).
  • Provide consistent, proactive and effective communication within the team, with project stakeholders, data requestors, etc.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or another related field is required.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years' laboratory experience is required with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or other related field.
  • Chromatography experience (i.e. HPLC and GC) is preferred.
  • Physical properties testing experience (i.e. wet chemistry) is preferred.
  • Deliver high quality analytical data on-time, data interpretation and problem solving for product development projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with department members, internal regulatory customers, and project stakeholders to present data, outline challenges and propose solutions.
  • Ability to critically inspect and proofread their own data and documents, and those of their colleagues, to proactively find and correct any issues.
  • Multi-tasking is required, as activities and testing can vary from day-to-day, depending on project scope.
