Animal Keeper

Duties and Responsibilities (in addition to daily Animal Care)

• All aspects of animal husbandry including but not limited to cleaning, feeding, giving medication, enrichment, and training.
• Maintain daily records on animal husbandry, training, and enrichment.
• Transport animals to and from the vet clinic when needed.
• Lead educational programs and tours.
• Identify and report maintenance issues.
• Ability to complete basic repairs.
• Adhere to animal standard operating procedures (SOP’s) including safety regulations.
• Complete regular animal diet preparation
• Participate in customer service and register shifts in our Visitor Center.
• Participate in committees, such as administrative tasks, volunteering organization, or events planning
• Follow the established chain of command for leadership and proper communication.
• Commit to developing professional skills by setting goals and seeking feedback.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be a minimum of 18 years old
• Have a bachelor’s degree or higher or have two years of paid animal experience
• A valid driver’s license
• Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include weekends and holidays
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Team oriented with the ability to work independently
• Have good time management skills
• Be self-motivated
• Be able to handle stressful situations in a calm, professional manner

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, push, pull 50 pounds
• Capable of working in all weather conditions
