Application Developer

Job Overview

Algonquin Studios is seeking a skilled Application Developer to design, develop, test, and maintain custom software applications and web-based solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills, experience with database-driven applications, and the ability to translate business requirements into reliable, user-friendly software.

In this proposed role, the Application Developer will collaborate with technical and business teams to deliver new features, enhance existing applications, integrate systems, and improve application performance, security, and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain web applications and custom software solutions.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
• Write clean, reusable, efficient, and maintainable application code.
• Develop responsive user interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern web technologies.
• Build and maintain backend services, application logic, and database integrations.
• Develop and integrate APIs to connect applications with external services and existing systems.
• Work with relational databases, SQL queries, and data models.
• Troubleshoot application defects, investigate root causes, and implement effective fixes.
• Conduct unit testing, integration testing, debugging, and code reviews.
• Improve application performance, reliability, accessibility, and security.
• Maintain technical documentation and follow software development standards.
• Collaborate with project managers, designers, developers, and other stakeholders.
• Support application releases, maintenance, and ongoing enhancements.

Required Skills and Experience

• Experience in application development, software engineering, or web development.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as C#, JavaScript, PHP, Python, or Java.
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive web design.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Understanding of APIs, web services, and software integration.
• Familiarity with version control tools such as Git.
• Understanding of software development life cycles, testing, and debugging practices.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and develop practical solutions.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a project-based environment.

Preferred Skills

• Experience developing custom business applications or content management systems.
• Familiarity with Microsoft technologies, web frameworks, or modern JavaScript frameworks.
• Experience with database-driven platforms, CRM systems, or enterprise applications.
• Knowledge of cloud hosting, deployment processes, and application monitoring.
• Familiarity with automated testing and continuous integration tools.
• Understanding of application security, authentication, and access control.
• Experience working in an Agile or iterative development environment.

Pay: $75,000\.00 - $100,000\.00 per year
