Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly creative and passionate Assistant Designer to contribute to the Rebecca Taylor women’s apparel collections. This role is ideal for a designer with 1-2 years of experience working within the contemporary or premium fashion market, with a strong ability to balance trend-driven creativity with commercial viability.

The Assistant Designer will play a key role in researching trends, developing seasonal concepts, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring designs from concept to final production. A strong understanding of market trends, customer preferences, and business strategy is essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Trend \& Market Research

· Conduct in-depth market research and competitive analysis to identify key trends in fabric, color, silhouette, and details for the contemporary and premium market.

· Monitor runway, street style, retail, and social media for emerging trends and translate them into commercially relevant designs.

· Present trend reports and mood boards to support seasonal concepts and product direction.

Design \& Development

· Collaborate with the Designer and Design Director to develop and execute women’s apparel collections that align with the brand aesthetic and commercial goals.

· Create and refine sketches, CADs, and technical flats with attention to fit, fabric, and construction.

· Create tech packs in excel

· Develop trim concepts in partnership with Designer

· Participate in fittings, providing design input and adjusting sketches and tech packs accordingly

· Assist in preparing proto and showroom samples for internal and external meetings

Cross-functional Collaboration

· Work closely with production to ensure fabric and trim selections are cost-effective and aligned with quality standards.

· Communicate with overseas vendors and factories, reviewing prototypes and resolving design or construction challenges.

· Assist in preparing and presenting designs during internal and external design reviews.

Organizational Support

· Ensure design files and seasonal documentation are organized and up to date.

· Track and manage sampling and approval timelines to meet key development deadlines.

· Sending out packages to overseas factories.

Qualifications \& Skills:

· Minimum 1-2 years of experience in women’s contemporary or premium apparel design.

· Strong understanding of fashion trends, apparel construction, fit development, fabric selection, and trims.

· Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office.

· Highly organized with excellent time management skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

· Strong communication and presentation skills to collaborate across teams and with external partners.
