#### Position Description
The University of Washington Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT), with an anticipated start date of January-July, 2027\. Academic title/rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in clinical care, research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month appointment. If hired at the Assistant Professor rank, the appointment will be for a 3-year term, renewable beginning [date]; Associate Professor appointments are indefinite, as described below.
Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

This position is based in the UW Medicine Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, with a primary site of practice at Harborview Medical Center. The Otolaryngology service at Harborview cares for a richly varied and complex patient population which includes the full spectrum of otologic and neurotologic disorders. As the only Level I adult and pediatric trauma and burn center in Washington State and the WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho), Harborview also draws complex temporal bone trauma and facial nerve injury referrals that complement the broader practice. The center includes state-of-the-art main and ambulatory operating rooms as well as a dedicated neuro intensive care unit and an experienced audiology team.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative Otology and Neurotology division spanning UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, and Seattle Children's Hospital. A particular strength of the program is its comprehensive vestibular practice through the Department's Dizziness and Balance Center.
The Department has a deep and longstanding research mission in hearing and balance science, anchored by the Virginia Merrill Bloedel Hearing Research Center - one of the largest multidisciplinary hearing and balance research groups in North America, bringing together investigators from the School of Medicine, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. Bloedel-affiliated faculty conduct NIH-funded research spanning the molecular biology of the inner ear, hair-cell regeneration, vestibular neuroscience, cochlear implant outcomes, and clinical trials of novel therapies for hearing and balance disorders. The successful candidate will have substantial opportunity to engage with Bloedel investigators and to develop clinical, translational, or collaborative research aligned with their interests, with departmental support for protected time, mentorship, and grant development commensurate with rank and interest.
The successful candidate will deliver and teach the full breadth of otologic and neurotologic care. The position is structured as a predominantly clinical role at 0\.8 CFTE, with the option of 0\.6 CFTE for candidates with substantial research aspirations and a clear scholarly trajectory. The faculty member will mentor residents and contribute to the department's academic mission through scholarly activity and share in faculty call responsibilities. All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research and service.

Assistant Professor WOT Rank:
The base salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor WOT rank will be: $25,834 - $27,084 per month ($310,008 - $325,008 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other compensation associated with this position may include semi-annual additional compensation through the University of Washington Physicians Group. The UW department of Otolaryngology –Head \& Neck Surgery targets the AAMC 50th percentile for total salary.
Associate Professor WOT Rank:
The base salary range for this position at the Associate Professor WOT rank will be: $34,167 - $36,667 per month ($410,004 - $440,004 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

#### Qualifications
Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- MD (or foreign equivalent), certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, and eligible for a Washington State medical license.
- Fellowship training in an ACGME accredited Neurotology and certification or eligibility for subspecialty certification in Neurotology by the American Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
- Demonstrated clinical excellence in otologic and neurotologic surgery and a record or trajectory of scholarly contribution commensurate with rank.
To be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
