Job Description
Autonomy Engineer — Maritime Robotics Startup
Up to $200,000
LA, onsite
Overview
My client is developing advanced autonomous systems designed to operate in complex, real‑world outdoor environments. The team builds high‑performance perception and autonomy capabilities that combine multi‑sensor understanding, real‑time processing, and robust edge compute.
Why join?
You’ll join a small, fast‑moving engineering team where your work is deployed quickly onto real platforms. This is a hands‑on role with rapid iteration cycles, meaningful ownership, and the chance to build production‑ready autonomy that works outside controlled lab conditions.
The Company
The company is an emerging robotics and AI organisation focused on building next‑generation autonomous systems for mission‑critical applications. They combine modern perception, intelligent control, and scalable hardware development in an engineering‑led environment. Work moves quickly, testing happens frequently, and engineers play a direct role in shaping deployed autonomous capabilities.
The Role
My client is seeking an Autonomy Engineer to design and implement the perception and autonomy stack for real‑world robotic platforms. You will build algorithms across object detection, classification, and tracking; develop multi‑sensor fusion pipelines; optimise for edge‑compute hardware; and integrate outputs into planning and control modules. You will also support field testing, simulation workflows, and data‑driven iteration.
The Essential Requirements
- Strong background in computer vision, ML, robotics perception or control
- Experience with multi‑sensor fusion and real‑time processing (LiDAR, radar, cameras, IMUs)
- Proficiency in C\+\+ and Python
- Experience with ROS or ROS2 and embedded Linux
- Understanding of linear algebra, probability, and state estimation (e.g., Kalman filters, SLAM)
- Comfortable with fast iteration, field testing, and cross‑functional collaboration
- Able to obtain a security clearance
What Will Make You Stand Out
- Experience with control systems (PID, MPC, or similar)
- Background in autonomy for outdoor or unstructured environments
- Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow
- GPU acceleration experience (CUDA, TensorRT)
- Experience building simulation tools or data‑annotation workflows
Benefits
- Competitive salary of between
$180,000 and $200,000
- Equity in a fast‑growing early‑stage robotics company
- Healthcare coverage
- Paid time off and company holidays
- Hands‑on work with rapid deployment and real‑world impact
