Job Description
Segal McCambridge, a national litigation firm, is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join our New York office as part of a dedicated client team managing the nationwide asbestos defense docket for one of the firm's largest clients. This is a unique opportunity to work exclusively with an established team supporting sophisticated, high-volume litigation on a national scale.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Candidates should have prior in-house paralegal experience and, ideally, experience with asbestos litigation or other mass tort/toxic tort matters.
Summary
The Paralegal will serve as an integral member of a dedicated client team responsible for managing a nationwide asbestos litigation docket. This role involves coordinating case management activities, maintaining client databases, preparing litigation summaries and presentations, and providing comprehensive support to both the client and legal team. The successful candidate will become a trusted resource in managing a complex national portfolio while helping ensure exceptional client service.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the management of a nationwide asbestos litigation docket.
- Review and summarize pleadings, discovery responses, deposition transcripts, and other litigation documents.
- Prepare concise case summaries and status reports for attorneys and client representatives.
- Become proficient in the client's case management database and maintain accurate, timely case information.
- Track and update litigation deadlines, trial dates, client meetings, and presentations.
- Prepare PowerPoint presentations and other client-facing materials.
- Coordinate with attorneys, in-house legal personnel, and outside counsel to support ongoing litigation strategy.
- Assist with billing-related functions and ensure compliance with client billing guidelines.
- Provide day-to-day support to the dedicated in-house client team and assist with special projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Prior paralegal experience supporting complex litigation matters required.
- Previous in-house paralegal experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with asbestos litigation, mass tort, toxic tort, or other high-volume litigation preferred.
- Strong understanding of litigation procedures and case management.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with litigation billing practices and client reporting requirements.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys, legal staff, and client representatives.
Compensation
Compensation is commensurate with experience and is expected to range from $70,000 to $120,000 annually.
