Position Overview
We are seeking a
Mechanical / Mechatronic Project Engineer
to lead the technical development of complex products from concept through release and sustainment. This role owns the
engineering solution
for assigned projects and serves as the
technical focal point
across design, substantiation, manufacturing integration, and configuration control.
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on engineer who thrives in
product development environments
, is comfortable making technical decisions, and can balance detailed engineering work with cross‑functional coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development \& Technical Ownership
- Lead
end‑to‑end product development activities
for mechanical or mechatronic components and assemblies, from initial concept through production release and sustaining support
- Define technical requirements, system boundaries, and verification approaches for assigned projects
- Own the technical architecture and engineering decisions needed to meet performance, regulatory, and manufacturability requirements
Design \& Engineering Execution
- Perform detailed mechanical and/or mechatronic design, including:
- 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing creation
- Application of GD\&T to support function, inspection, and production
- Conduct or coordinate engineering substantiation activities (stress, thermal, fatigue/durability, functional analysis, as applicable)
- Develop and execute design substantiation and test plans to demonstrate compliance with applicable certification or regulatory requirements
Reverse Engineering
- Perform reverse engineering of existing components and assemblies, including:
- Dimensional inspection and data capture
- Material and process evaluation
- Functional assessment and documentation
- Support sustaining engineering activities, addressing nonconformances, field issues, and continuous product improvements
Technical Data \& Configuration Management
- Develop and maintain complete
technical data packages (TDPs)
, including drawings, specifications, substantiation reports, test plans/reports, and manufacturing instructions
- Support configuration management and engineering change control, ensuring changes are technically sound, properly documented, and evaluated for regulatory and customer impact
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with
Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Operations
to ensure designs are producible, inspectable, and compliant
- Support inspection planning and First Article Inspection (AS9102 or equivalent)
- Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to resolve technical issues and clarify requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in
Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering
, or a related engineering discipline
- 2\+ years of experience in
product development, mechanical design, or sustaining engineering
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD and 2D drawing creation (Inventor preferred or equivalent)
- Demonstrated ability to create production‑ready engineering documentation
- Experience owning technical solutions across the product lifecycle
- Solid understanding of engineering substantiation, test planning, and verification methods
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to drive technical issues to closure
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and cross‑functional collaboration
Preferred / Nice‑to‑Have Experience
- Experience in
regulated manufacturing environments
(aerospace, aviation, defense, medical, automotive, etc.)
- Familiarity with aerospace quality and documentation standards (AS9100, AS9102/FAI, configuration management)
- Experience with certification‑driven development, reverse engineering, or compliance documentation
- Strong GD\&T skills (ASME Y14\.5) applied to functional and inspection‑driven designs
- Exposure to mechatronic systems (electro‑mechanical integration, sensors, actuators, control interfaces)
What Success Looks Like in This Role
- Products are technically sound, compliant, and production‑ready
- Engineering decisions are well‑documented and defensible
- Technical risks are identified early and addressed proactively
- Cross‑functional teams trust the engineering direction and clarity
