About the Program
Our client is one of Australia’s Big Four banks, undertaking a multi-year, business-led and technology-enabled transformation – one of the largest simplification and migration programs in Australian banking. The program is consolidating hundreds of discrete legacy systems and processes down to a streamlined core, retiring duplicated platforms and migrating the bank onto modern, automated “evergreen” platforms supported by persistent teams. The program involves well over a thousand people across multiple major work packages and runs over several years. As a Senior Business Analyst you will sit at the heart of this change – translating complex legacy estates into clear, migration-ready requirements that protect customers and data throughout cutover.
Role Purpose
You will lead requirements and analysis activities within a migration work package, partnering with product, engineering, data, risk and operations to define the current state, design the target state, and de-risk the migration path between them. You bring senior judgement to large, ambiguous problems and set the analysis standard for less experienced BAs in your squad.
Key Responsibilities
- Requirements leadership:
Elicit, analyse, document and prioritise business and technical requirements for the migration and decommissioning of legacy platforms, ensuring traceability from strategy through to delivery.
- Current- \& target-state analysis:
Map existing processes, data flows and system dependencies; define the target operating model and the transition states required to get there.
- Migration \& data analysis:
Define data migration rules, mapping, reconciliation and validation criteria; partner with data engineers to ensure completeness, accuracy and lineage across source and target systems.
- Cutover \& decommissioning:
Support cutover planning, dress rehearsals, fallback/rollback criteria and post-migration verification; contribute to decommissioning runbooks for retired systems.
- Stakeholder management:
Facilitate workshops and align product owners, architects, engineering, operations, risk and external vendors on scope, sequencing and trade-offs.
- Risk \& compliance:
Embed regulatory, privacy, security and operational-risk requirements (e.g. APRA CPS 230/234, Privacy Act obligations) into solutions and surface migration risks early.
- Agile delivery:
Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria, groom the backlog, and support PI/sprint planning, UAT and defect triage in a scaled-agile environment.
- Quality \& mentoring:
Set BA artefacts and standards across the squad, review peers’ work, and coach junior analysts.
Essential Skills \& Experience
- 10\+ years’ business analysis experience, including large, complex transformation or migration programs.
- Demonstrable experience delivering system migration, platform consolidation or core/legacy decommissioning work – ideally in banking or financial services.
- Strong data analysis capability: data mapping, reconciliation and the ability to interrogate data (SQL or equivalent) to validate migration outcomes.
- Proven process mapping and requirements skills (BPMN, user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria).
- Experience working in Agile/Scaled Agile (SAFe) delivery teams with tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Excellent stakeholder, facilitation and written-communication skills, able to bridge business and technical audiences.
- Sound understanding of risk, controls and regulatory obligations in a banking context.
Desirable
- Direct experience on a Big Four or comparable tier-1 bank transformation program.
- Exposure to cloud migration, microservices or API-led integration and modern “evergreen” platforms.
- Knowledge of core banking, payments, lending, wealth or deposits domains.
- Familiarity with APRA CPS 230 (operational resilience) and CPS 234 (information security).
- Relevant certifications (e.g. CBAP, BCS, SAFe, AgileBA).
What We Offer
- A career-defining role on one of Australia’s most significant technology transformations.
- Hybrid working, competitive remuneration and a strong learning and development culture.
- Diverse, inclusive teams and a flexible, supportive working environment.
Our client is an equal opportunity employer and a flexible workplace. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, including First Nations peoples, people with disability, and those of all ages, genders and cultures.
