Job Summary
The Sourcing Specialist is responsible for supporting and executing sourcing strategies for indirect spend categories and steel and fabricated commodities. This role partners with engineering, operations, supply chain, and finance to support cost reduction initiatives, manage supplier performance, and ensure continuity of supply across assigned spend categories. The position requires solid analytical skills, developing negotiation capabilities, and the ability to work cross functionally in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and execution of sourcing strategies for indirect spend categories (e.g., MRO, capital equipment, services, logistics, tooling) production steel and fabricated components
- Execute RFQ/RFP processes, including bid analyses, cost comparisons, supplier recommendations, and contract awards
- Support total cost of ownership (TCO) initiatives, including basic cost breakdowns and should-cost analysis
- Monitor market trends for steel, fabrication, and related commodities, including raw material pricing and capacity considerations
- Identify, evaluate, and assist with onboarding suppliers for steel, fabrication, and indirect goods and services
- Participate in commercial negotiations, including pricing, lead times, payment terms, and contract conditions, with guidance from senior sourcing leadership
- Manage supplier relationships for assigned categories, including performance tracking, issue resolution, and continuous improvement activities
- Resolve supplier issues related to cost, delivery, capacity, and quality in collaboration with cross functional teams
- Partner with internal stakeholders to align sourcing activities with technical requirements and production schedules
- Collaborate with finance on budgeting activities, cost savings tracking, and spend analysis
- Track sourcing KPIs such as cost savings, supplier performance, and contract compliance
- Support supply continuity planning, including secondary sourcing and risk mitigation efforts
- Place purchase orders and assist with resolving invoice and payment issues for assigned categories
- Occasional travel of \~ 10%
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Finance, or a related field
- Certifications: APICS, CPSM, CSCP, or similar professional certification (or progress toward certification)
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in sourcing, procurement, or supply chain roles, with exposure to indirect spend and/or steel or fabrication categories
- Experience sourcing steel products (plate, sheet, tube, structural) or fabricated components
- Exposure to working with domestic or regional steel suppliers or service centers
- Working knowledge of steel markets, fabrication processes, or manufacturing supply chains
- Experience supporting negotiations and managing supplier relationships
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in spend analysis or cost comparisons
- Proficiency with ERP and sourcing tools (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle, Coupa or similar)
