Job Description

Description

The City of Round Rock is seeking a curious, analytical, and detail-oriented Budget Analyst to play a key role in supporting financial decision-making across our organization. This is a great opportunity for candidates who love working with numbers, solving problems, and turning data into insights—and it’s especially appealing for professionals who have never considered municipal work before.

Why? Because here, your work directly impacts city services, long-range planning, community quality of life, and the financial strength of one of Texas’s fastest-growing cities. You’ll collaborate with departments across the organization, assist leaders in making strategic decisions, and help ensure our budget remains accurate, transparent, and aligned with community goals.

Whether you’re coming from the private sector or bringing public-sector experience, this position provides meaningful work, stability, and the chance to contribute to a mission that matters.

Posted pay range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.

Examples of Duties

As a Budget Analyst, you’ll support departments, leadership, and the community by:

  • Assisting departments with their budget requests while providing guidance on policy, historical actuals, revenue estimates, and financial procedures
  • Monitoring, tracking, and forecasting revenues and expenditures for budget development and reporting
  • Conducting financial analyses, including budget-to-actuals, historical trends, projections, and cost-benefit studies
  • Ensuring data integrity by reconciling budget reports with the general ledger
  • Supporting the Budget Manager with research for projects requested by the City Manager’s Office, CFO, or other departments
  • Preparing and presenting financial reports tailored to different audiences
  • Applying critical thinking, strong writing skills, and excellent communication to clearly explain financial data and insights

Experience And Training

Who You Are

You’re analytical, organized, and naturally curious. You enjoy digging into data, noticing trends, and translating financial information into clear, actionable insights. You can balance precision with big-picture thinking, and you communicate well with both finance-savvy colleagues and those who don’t speak “numbers” every day.

You’ll thrive here if you enjoy collaborative problem solving, working across departments, and supporting decisions that have a real impact on the community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
  • At least three years of accounting, budgeting, or related financial experience
  • Additional education beyond a bachelor’s may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis

Why Work for the City of Round Rock?
