About the Role
Great Lakes Environmental \& Safety Consultants is seeking a Senior Air Permitting Specialist to join our Buffalo, NY office. This role focuses on minor source and state-level air permitting for industrial and commercial clients across New York and the surrounding region. You'll lead permitting efforts from applicability determinations through final approval, serve as a technical resource for clients and internal staff, and help grow our air quality practice. We're looking for someone with deep regulatory knowledge, strong client instincts, and the ability to manage multiple projects independently.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, submit, and manage minor source and state-level air permit applications for a diverse portfolio of industrial and commercial clients across New York and the surrounding region
- Conduct applicability determinations and regulatory analyses under federal and state air quality programs
- Develop emission calculations and support clients in maintaining compliance with permit conditions
- Coordinate directly with NYSDEC and local agency reviewers throughout the permitting lifecycle
- Advise clients on regulatory changes, upcoming deadlines, and strategies to streamline their permitting path
- Support proposal development and business growth by scoping air permitting projects and estimating level of effort
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field
- 5-10 years of hands-on experience in air permitting, with a strong focus on minor source and state-level permits
- Working knowledge of NYSDEC air regulations, and related federal and state programs
- Strong technical writing skills
- Excellent communication and client relationship skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience with emission calculation methodologies and air dispersion modeling is a plus
- Professional certifications (QEP, PE) are valued but not required
