Job Description
Analytics Engineer role focuses on building a data platform for POS and operational data. The engineer designs Snowflake models, develops dbt transformations, and supports Power BI reporting to deliver trusted analytics for sales, labor, finance, and operations. The position drives data quality, documentation, and scalable solutions across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and build Snowflake data models for enterprise reporting and analytics
- Develop dbt models, tests, documentation, lineage, and transformation workflows
- Build curated data marts for operations, finance, labor, sales, franchise reporting, and executive dashboards
- Define and document business logic, source mappings, calculations, and data definitions
- Partner with integration engineering to validate incoming POS and vendor data
- Build data quality checks, reconciliation logic, and QA processes
- Support Power BI datasets, semantic models, dashboards, and reporting layers
- Help establish warehouse standards, naming conventions, model layers, and deployment processes
- Translate business reporting needs into reliable, tested, and documented data models
- Trace data issues from reporting outputs back through warehouse, operational databases, and source systems
- Build scalable, efficient models with attention to warehouse, compute, and operational cost
Qualifications:
- Strong SQL experience
- Experience with data warehousing, dimensional modeling, or analytics engineering
- Experience with Snowflake or a similar cloud data warehouse
- Experience with dbt or a similar transformation framework
- Experience building reporting-ready datasets, semantic layers, or data marts
- Understanding of data quality, reconciliation, testing, and documentation
- Ability to work with business users and technical teams
- Ability to explain data issues clearly and trace problems back to source systems
- Comfortable working in a lean team with broad ownership across design, build, deployment, and support
Preferred Skills:
- Power BI experience
- SQL Server experience
- Python experience
- Experience with POS, restaurant, retail, franchise, or multi-location business data
- Experience with finance, labor, sales, inventory, or operational reporting
- Experience with dbt Core or dbt Cloud
- Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, or GitLab
- Experience building governed models for executive reporting
- Understanding of ELT patterns, incremental models, and warehouse cost management
