Contract role - full benefits offered \+ weekly pay!
Primary Focus:
Business process documentation, system/data flow analysis, and support for improved reporting and data accuracy
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Business Process \& Data Analyst for a contract engagement to support a strategic data and reporting improvement initiative. This role will work closely with business leaders, operational teams, and technology stakeholders to document how work is performed across the organization, how users interact with systems, and how data moves through business processes, source systems, integrations, downstream platforms, and reporting outputs.
The analyst will help establish a clear current-state understanding of operational processes and associated data movement, with the goal of identifying gaps, inconsistencies, manual workarounds, system issues, and data quality risks that affect business reporting and decision-making.
This is a hands-on, discovery-oriented role requiring a strong blend of business analysis, process modeling, systems thinking, and data/documentation discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Meet with business leaders, managers, and end users to understand operational workflows, business rules, system usage, pain points, and reporting dependencies.
- Facilitate structured discovery sessions to document how processes are intended to work and how they are actually performed in practice.
- Create clear current-state business process documentation using tools and methods such as:
- BPMN process models
- Swimlane diagrams
- UML 2\.0 sequence diagrams
- Supporting workflow and system interaction documentation
- Trace data through operational processes, including:
- Where data is created, updated, validated, transferred, transformed, reported, or manually adjusted
- Source systems and downstream target systems
- Integrations, manual handoffs, spreadsheets, and system workarounds
- Exceptions, data breaks, and error-handling points
- Develop data movement and traceability documentation, including source-to-target mappings, data lineage notes, business rules, and reporting dependencies.
- Help identify process, system, integration, and data quality issues that may affect reporting accuracy, operational visibility, or downstream decision-making.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to clarify:
- Business terms and definitions
- Plain-English calculation logic
- Data dependencies
- Reporting assumptions and exclusions
- Translate findings into clear issue documentation, requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and recommendations for review and prioritization.
- Coordinate with data engineering, integration, application, and reporting teams to ensure documentation is actionable and supports follow-on remediation work.
- Maintain organized, reusable documentation that connects business processes, systems, data movement, and reporting outcomes.
Expected Deliverables
Expected to produce high-quality, usable documentation and analysis artifacts, which may include:
- Current-state operational process maps
- BPMN workflow diagrams
- UML 2\.0 sequence diagrams showing user, system, and data interactions
- Process narratives and business rule documentation
- Data movement and source-to-target traceability documentation
- System interaction and integration dependency documentation
- Identification of process, system, data, and reporting issues
- Business glossary and metric-definition support materials
- Requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for issues requiring follow-up remediation
- Summary findings and recommendations by business process or functional area
Required Qualifications
- 5\+ years of experience in business analysis, business systems analysis, process analysis, product analysis, data analysis, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience leading discovery sessions with business leaders and end users.
- Strong experience documenting operational processes and translating business activity into structured process models.
- Working knowledge of BPMN and UML 2\.0, particularly sequence diagrams and process/system interaction documentation.
- Experience analyzing how data moves across business processes, systems, integrations, and downstream reporting environments.
- Ability to distinguish among:
- Process issues
- User/system usage issues
- Integration issues
- Data quality issues
- Reporting logic or definition issues
- Experience translating analysis into clear documentation, requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to create artifacts that are useful to both business and technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently, drive structured analysis, and make progress in environments where processes may be informal, inconsistently documented, or heavily dependent on institutional knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting enterprise data, reporting, or data quality initiatives.
- Familiarity with business glossaries, metric catalogs, data lineage, data governance, or source-to-target documentation.
- Experience working with ERP, CRM, operational platforms, or multi-system enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, Miro, Draw.io, Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, or similar documentation and work-management platforms.
- Basic SQL literacy or experience reviewing underlying system/reporting data to validate understanding.
- Experience in organizations where operational data flows into a data warehouse, semantic reporting layer, or BI environment.
