Position Overview
This role is responsible for the procurement and planning of materials to support production and customer demand. The Buyer will execute purchasing decisions to maintain optimal inventory levels, ensuring availability of raw materials and outsourced products while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
The position also focuses on building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, while developing a deep understanding of supplier capabilities and long-term business potential.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement \& Planning
- Analyze demand plans, historical data, and business inputs to develop and execute procurement plans aligned with production and shipment requirements.
- Manage purchase orders with domestic and international suppliers, including order placement, expediting, and verification of transactions.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels in line with inventory targets, service levels, and stocking strategies.
- Monitor and address daily procurement issues such as over-shipments, shortages, delivery changes, and pricing updates, ensuring timely communication with stakeholders.
- Conduct detailed analysis of purchasing needs, material usage, and inventory trends to optimize procurement strategies.
- Support sourcing initiatives for new materials to enable new product development and cost reduction efforts.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and annual rebates to drive cost efficiencies.
- Provide support for MRO purchasing and other procurement-related activities as needed.
Supplier \& Vendor Management
- Monitor supplier performance to ensure timely delivery and compliance with quality specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of supplier interactions, meetings, and performance metrics.
- Coordinate supplier communications, including project follow-ups and product updates.
- Act as a liaison between suppliers and internal quality teams to resolve service or quality issues through corrective actions.
- Prepare and present KPI reports and supply chain performance metrics.
Systems \& Process Management
- Maintain accurate master data in SAP, including lead times, pricing, supplier details, and purchase order information.
- Monitor and manage inventory parameters such as minimum, maximum, and safety stock levels, providing recommendations for optimization.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements in procurement processes and supplier management systems.
- Develop strong working knowledge of SAP procurement modules to serve as a subject matter resource.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with warehousing and logistics teams to manage inventory fluctuations and storage requirements.
- Collaborate with Product Management to align procurement activities with forecast changes and new product introductions.
- Communicate effectively with shipping and receiving teams to ensure readiness for incoming deliveries.
- Work across departments and management levels to support organizational goals and ensure smooth operations.
- Contribute to team objectives by supporting additional tasks and initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
Education \& Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Operations Planning, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in procurement, including purchasing, inventory control, contract negotiation, and supplier management.
- Strong understanding of MRP processes.
Skills \& Competencies
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (SAP preferred), along with Microsoft Excel, Word, and database applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and ability to travel as required.
