$50,000/yr; negotiable based on qualifications and experience

SUMMARY:

Prime Metal Buildings is looking for an experienced Buyer/Purchasing Agent to join our growing team in Dublin, Texas. This person will help plan and develop approved steel suppliers, prepare requests for quotes with steel mills and service centers, review proposals and order material. They will also maintain stock levels for raw steel, expedite deliveries, and track market trends. The Buyer/Purchasing Agent is responsible for supplier management to ensure materials are received with proper specifications and tolerances while adhering to project schedules and budgets. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mathematical background, including an understanding of theoretical math as it applies to steel purchasing, tolerances, and material optimization, along with strong negotiating skills to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop Request for Quotes (RFQ) to Steel Suppliers. Review proposals and ensure all terms and conditions are met.
  • Negotiate pricing and create purchase orders to maintain stock levels for raw material. Leverage strong negotiation skills to secure optimal pricing, lead times, and contract terms with suppliers.
  • Must be able to understand market trends and monitor costs to keep projects within budget.
  • Help establish and coordinate new vendors of raw steel.
  • Able to manage suppliers for quality and on time delivery.
  • Track usage and raw steel needs based on upcoming projects and fabrication schedules.
  • Must be familiar with planning and scheduling delivery requirements associated with manufacturing jobs.
  • Able to interpret engineered plate summary reports to establish raw steel needs.
  • Possess a good understanding of steel tolerance required by engineers. Apply mathematical and analytical skills to evaluate steel tolerances, yield efficiencies, and material specifications.
  • Able to provide information to support internal quoting activity with cost and lead times.
  • Must have strong communication skills and demonstrate proficiency with MS Office programs.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by Purchasing Manager.

Qualifications

  • Must be a self-starter requiring minimum supervision to perform job tasks.
  • Must be able to read and interpret plate summary reports and mill test reports.
  • Should have knowledge of typical PC/business software applications.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be organized and able to prioritize work, accurately perform duties and pay close attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work under pressure, relate to others, and maintain flexibility with fabrication schedules.
  • Prior steel, metal building or purchasing knowledge is a plus.
  • Must have a strong mathematical background, including and understanding of theoretical math as it relates to material calculations, steel tolerances, and cost optimization.
  • Demonstrated strong negotiation skills with the ability to effectively manage supplier relationships and secure competitive agreements.
