Overview:
Capitol Broadcasting Company is seeking a full-time Senior Financial Analyst for their Media Division. The Senior Financial Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the financial planning, analysis, and reporting functions for the Media Division, including TV and Digital media. This individual serves as a key business partner to divisional and departmental leadership - including close collaboration with the Sales organization - providing insightful financial analysis, clear and compelling reporting, and rigorous modeling to support both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate financial information clearly and effectively. This role requires a proactive, self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as collaboratively to provide insight and support to the executive team and business leaders. A builder at heart, this person is expected to systematically eliminate manual, recurring analytical work by developing documented, scalable systems and tools that elevate the entire organization’s analytical capability.
Responsibilities:
Financial Analysis: (approx. 35% of time)
- Collaborate with the TV \& Digital Controller, Media Finance Director, and FP\&A Director to develop and enhance the reporting suite, encompassing key metrics, recurring reports, and detailed data packages.
- Update and analyze key performance indicators to deliver actionable, real-time insights and recommendations to the management team.
- Update and review monthly revenue and expense reports and analyze key financial data to update monthly forecasts and dashboard reporting, including variances, drivers, action items, and risks/opportunities.
- Translate sales team inputs, including advertising bookings, digital revenue trends, and deal activity, into financial projections with clear assumptions and supporting analysis.
- Proactively identify and communicate trends and variances in monthly results to Controller and business partners.
- Prepare monthly financial dashboard with written commentary for management review with attention to accuracy, timeliness, and clarity of presentation.
- Maintain and update retransmission consent revenue models, incorporating rate changes, subscriber data, and contract terms while monitoring agreement milestones and ensuring financial model reflects current deal structures.
Financial Planning: (approx. 25% of time)
- Develop, refine, and update financial models essential for both short-term and long-term planning, inclusive of seasonal special events.
- Support the preparation and execution of the organization’s annual budget and 5-year projections, working closely with department heads to compile and validate submissions.
- Collaborate with Corporate and BU leadership on budget and projection inputs, validating assumptions and ensuring alignment with operational and strategic objectives.
Strategic \& Operational Decision Support (approx. 40% of time)
- Partner with business leaders to drive strategic decision making and develop long-term financial plans and strategic initiatives.
- Develop scenario and sensitivity analysis models to evaluate business decisions, strategic initiatives, and potential investments.
- Assist in preparing and assessing business cases to justify investments.
- Assist with retransmission negotiations, as needed.
- Build automated tools, systems, and dashboards that eliminate recurring manual work, provide key insights, and enable faster decision making across business disciplines - with documented processes that allow any team member to maintain and update outputs independently.
- Identify and prioritize recurring analytical tasks across the division that can be systematized, consolidated, or automated - continuously raising the floor on what manual work is still required.
- Analyze and provide insights into how events have affected historical revenue, sellout, and rates and incorporate learnings into budget and projections.
- Provide ad hoc support and analysis to aid management, as needed.
