Voltas is an integrated medical device development and manufacturing company offering end-to-end services under one roof, with a single project manager, budget, and timeline for clients. The organization provides accelerated in-house capabilities including R\&D, weekly prototyping, sensor and wearable integration, PCB and app development, and regulatory support such as Pre-Sub/513g work and 510(k) submissions. Voltas also delivers advanced manufacturing services, including balloon development, plastic and micro-injection molding, die mold tooling, UV laser etching, RF and ultrasonic welding, and specialized coatings. Complementary services span packaging and labeling, sterilization and validation, usability studies, and user testing. The company further supports clients with marketing, digital presence, merchant services, distribution, warehousing, and a medical sales team.

Role Description

This is an on-site internship role for a Senior Mechanical Engineer located in the United States. The intern will support mechanical design and development activities for medical devices, including concept generation, modeling, and analysis of components and assemblies. Day-to-day responsibilities include working with cross-functional teams in R\&D, contributing to weekly prototyping, preparing and updating CAD models and drawings, and assisting in design reviews and design-for-manufacturability efforts. The role also involves supporting testing, data collection, and documentation to meet regulatory and quality requirements, as well as coordinating with project managers on timelines, milestones, and deliverables. The intern will learn and apply best practices in medical device development, collaborating closely with engineering, manufacturing, and regulatory teams.

Compensation

$10,000 per month, $120,000 per year. Health benefits. Stock options. 8 weeks PTO a year.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering, with understanding of mechanics, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in Machine Design, including design of mechanical components, assemblies, and mechanisms for reliability and safety.
  • Hands-on experience or coursework with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for 3D modeling, drafting, and design iteration.
  • Exposure to Research and Development (R\&D), including prototyping, testing, data analysis, and documentation.
  • Basic Project Management skills, such as task planning, time management, and coordination with cross-functional teams.
  • Pursuing or holding a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications, and familiarity with GD\&T is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a lab and manufacturing environment.
  • Interest in medical devices or regulated industries; prior internship or project experience in this field is advantageous.
