Job Description

Solutions Architect, Restaurant \& Hospitality Technology \| Specific Gravity Group

Full-Time \| Remote (US) with Travel to Client Sites

What We Do

Specific Gravity Group is a managed IT services provider (MSP) for multi-unit restaurant, hospitality, and retail brands. We are the outsourced IT department for our clients: we design, deploy, and support the complete technology stack at every location \| POS, back-of-house networks, internet circuits and failover, desktops and servers, Microsoft 365, security cameras, access control, drive-thru systems, AV, and structured cabling. We run the help desk their stores call, we dispatch field technicians nationwide, and we open their new stores: since 2014 we have completed more than 800 location openings for national and emerging brands. Our clients are growing multi-unit brands, typically dozens of locations each, and they depend on us to keep every store running and every opening on schedule.

The Job

You are the senior technical resource across all client programs. You report to leadership, work alongside our Program Managers, and sit above them technically: you design the solutions they implement, you are their escalation point, and when their workload spikes, you take over programs and run them yourself \| scoping, managing, and implementing end to end, pulling in field resources as needed.

Concretely, in a given week you might:

  • Architect a network refresh for a 40-location brand and present it to their leadership
  • Scope the full IT stack for a new store opening against a hard opening date
  • Join a sales call to do technical discovery on a prospective client, then write the solution
  • Take a Tier 3 escalation the help desk cannot solve and close it
  • Step in as acting Program Manager on an active rollout because the assigned PM is at capacity
  • Travel to a client site to oversee an install or opening

What this job is:

hands-on, client-facing, deadline-driven work in restaurant and retail environments. You design it, you sell it, you build it, you support it. Kitchens, dining rooms, drive-thrus, stockrooms \| at times nights and weekends when a store opens or a cutover happens.

What this job is not:

a pure design role, a whiteboard architecture role, a people-management role, or a cloud/data-center role. You will not hand drawings to an implementation team \| you are frequently the implementation team. If you have not worked in restaurant or retail IT, this is not your job.

This role requires multi-unit restaurant, hospitality, or retail IT experience.

If your background is enterprise corporate IT, data center, cloud-only, or another industry vertical, do not apply \| the pace, environments, and technology stack are fundamentally different.

The role is remote with travel to client sites as needed. Candidates may be located anywhere in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Design and present technical solutions for multi-unit restaurant and retail environments across POS, network, desktop/server, AV, drive-thru, and physical security (surveillance and access control), then lead implementation of accepted designs
  • Scope, manage, and deliver projects end to end, including new store openings (NSOs), multi-site refreshes, and technology rollouts against hard opening dates
  • Act as overflow Program Manager, taking ownership of active programs when workload requires
  • Support sales with technical discovery, solution design, and client presentations for prospective accounts
  • Serve as Tier 3 escalation for complex support issues that stump the help desk
  • Drive improvement of internal systems, tooling, and processes
  • Communicate directly with client stakeholders, from GMs and site managers to franchise executives

-

Required Qualifications

  • 4\+ years of IT experience in multi-unit restaurant, hospitality, or retail environments
  • Hands-on experience with restaurant/retail technology stacks: POS platforms (Toast, Tabit, NCR, Oracle/Micros, or similar), kitchen display systems, back-of-house networks, payment environments, and PCI DSS considerations
  • Proven solution architecture experience across desktop/laptop, server, AV, network, and security (surveillance and access control), with hands-on implementation of your own designs
  • New store opening or multi-site rollout experience with immovable deadlines
  • Strong Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 administration experience, including Intune, Entra ID, and Azure
  • Demonstrated project management ability: scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and resource coordination
  • Ability to present technical solutions to non-technical operators and win their confidence
  • Highly organized and self-directed; able to prioritize competing demands with little or no direction

-

Preferred

  • Experience working within or alongside an MSP serving restaurant or retail brands
  • Familiarity with ConnectWise or similar PSA platforms
  • Meraki, Cradlepoint, or similar multi-site network management experience
  • Low-voltage/structured cabling oversight in live operating environments
  • Previous IT Director at a Multi-Unit Restaurant Brand
