Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
State \& Local Tax (SALT) Analyst
to support a complex multi-state indirect tax function within a large-scale corporate environment. This role will play a critical part in managing compliance, audit support, technical research, and process improvement initiatives while partnering cross-functionally across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and file multi-state sales \& use tax returns (monthly, quarterly, and annual)
- Coordinate timely tax remittances with external tax service providers
- Perform general ledger-to-tax reconciliations to ensure reporting accuracy
- Serve as primary point of contact for state and local tax audits, including IDRs, documentation requests, and audit support
- Conduct technical research related to product and service taxability
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and assess business impact
- Support tax automation tools and ERP/tax engine integrations within SAP
- Manage exemption certificate processes and maintain compliance documentation
- Handle state registrations and annual indirect tax filings
- Support federal excise tax reporting, including Form 720 and related filings
- Participate in tax planning initiatives and broader cross-functional projects
- Maintain SOX compliance and support internal/external audit requirements
Qualifications
Required:
- 5\+ years of tax experience within public accounting and/or industry
- Strong indirect tax background with deep experience in sales \& use tax compliance
- Experience supporting tax audits, reporting, and audit defense
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Advanced Excel proficiency
Preferred:
- CPA and/or Master’s in Taxation
- Big 4 or large regional public accounting experience
- Experience in complex, multi-state indirect tax environments
- Exposure to OneSource Determination or similar tax software
- SAP experience
