**Database Administrator (IDMS DBA) Project Lead

Positin type: W2 contract**

Job Description

  • Lead database administration activities for a large-scale, high-visibility enterprise project supporting mission-critical applications.
  • Provide hands-on IDMS database administration, monitoring, and application support following established industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with application development teams, system support teams, and database administrators to manage database environments across development, testing, staging, and production.
  • Configure, tune, and optimize IDMS database features to maximize system performance and availability.
  • Analyze database performance metrics, recommend improvements, and implement optimization strategies.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance database operational procedures and standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on database architecture, deployment strategies, and data model enhancements.
  • Coordinate with vendors, external organizations, and cross-functional stakeholders to support project objectives.
  • Support application development teams by recommending best practices for database design, performance, and scalability.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation to ensure continuous availability of critical systems.
  • Assist with database deployment, maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting, and production support.
  • Contribute to project planning, technical estimations, resource planning, and implementation strategies.
  • Communicate effectively with technical teams, project management, and business stakeholders through presentations, status updates, and documentation.
  • Ensure database security, integrity, reliability, and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Perform additional database administration and technical leadership responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills

  • 15\+ years of experience administering and deploying IDMS databases in IBM z/OS mainframe environments.
  • 10\+ years of experience with IDMS SQL Option, including relational database implementation and SQL-based database support.
  • 15\+ years of experience implementing and managing IDMS security, including ADS/O application structures, IDD, and relational database objects.
  • 15\+ years of experience developing applications using COBOL and ADS/O with native and SQL-based IDMS databases.
  • 12\+ years of experience with IBM High Level Assembler on z/OS.
  • 10\+ years of experience using IDMS Perfmon for monitoring and performance reporting.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise application development and implementation projects.
  • Experience with project planning, effort estimation, and technical resource allocation.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated integrity, leadership, and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills

  • RACF security administration knowledge.
  • Experience with application change management processes.
  • Healthcare industry experience and/or experience handling PHI/PII data.
  • Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) experience.
  • Medicaid operations experience.
  • Public sector experience is preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical, business, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
