Job Description
Controller
About gWorks:
gWorks builds software that helps small local governments work better. Our clients are public servants, city clerks, utility billing staff, public works teams, and county administrators. These are the folks who keep their communities running smoothly. Their work is essential, but often constrained by outdated tools.
We fix that. Our cloud-based platform replaces legacy systems with simple, integrated software built specifically for small governments. We serve thousands of communities nationwide, streamlining operations, improving service delivery, and making day-to-day work more manageable.
We’re consolidating several acquired products into one platform and guiding our clients through this transition. It’s complex, important work that requires a team that can execute at a high level to help drive that transformation.
The Role:
As Corporate Controller, you’ll lead our accounting function at a critical moment of scale. With support from BV Investment Partners and 3–4 acquisitions annually, we’re rapidly expanding and integrating new solutions into a unified SaaS platform. You’ll partner closely with the CFO, lead a growing team, and bring clarity, structure, and operational discipline to a high-growth, PE-backed environment.
This is a strategic but hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in fast-paced settings, understands SaaS and software revenue models, and can communicate financial insights with precision across functions and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Leadership
- Own all accounting operations: GL, AP/AR, payroll, billing, and monthly close
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition across SaaS, desktop, professional services, and hardware in line with ASC 606
- Maintain strong internal controls, audit readiness, and disciplined documentation
- Redesign and maintain a scalable Chart of Accounts for consolidated reporting
Financial Reporting \& Compliance
- Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financials with speed and precision
- Partner with the CFO and FP\&A to lead financial reviews and variance analysis
- Manage external audit relationships and ensure compliance with GAAP and tax requirements (state/federal)
M\&A Integration
- Lead post-close financial integration, including purchase price accounting and opening balance sheets
- Consolidate acquired entities and standardize accounting policies
- Support financial diligence and ensure system alignment across legacy and acquired operations
Systems \& Process Optimization
- Own financial systems, including QuickBooks Online, Maxio (SaaSOptics), Bill.com, and Excel models
- Drive automation and process improvements to scale accounting operations
- Lead system evaluations for sales tax, ERP, and future financial platforms
Team Development
- Lead and mentor a team of 2 staff accountants and 1 accounting specialist
- Build a high-performing team grounded in ownership, accuracy, and collaboration
- Promote transparency, urgency, and proactive cross-functional decision-making
What You'll Bring:
- CPA required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 7\+ years of progressive accounting experience in SaaS
- Deep expertise in GAAP, ASC 606, and multi-revenue stream accounting
- Proven success supporting M\&A integration, purchase price accounting, and system consolidation
- Experience with QuickBooks Online, Maxio (or equivalent), and Excel-based modeling
- Strong PE or investor-facing experience — comfortable presenting and explaining financials
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with responsiveness and rigor
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — able to clarify financial insights for executive, investor, and cross-functional audiences
- Process-oriented, detail-driven, and motivated by improvement
What Success Looks Like:
- Clean, timely month-end closes with accurate financial statements
- Automated and scalable accounting workflows
- Proactive, data-backed financial insights for leadership, lenders, and investors
- Seamless financial integration of acquisitions and standardized systems
- A high-performing team with a clear sense of accountability and ownership
Where You’ll Work
- Omaha-based? You'll follow our hybrid model: work remotely with in-office collaboration on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Remote? You’ll be fully supported to work from anywhere in the U.S. We prioritize connected, accountable teams — no matter where you're located
- Members of the sales team should expect to attend 4-6 conferences in their territory each year during event season.
Compensation \& Benefits:
- Base Salary Range: $125,000- $145,000
- Bonus: 10%
- Full medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with company match
- Flexible PTO and paid holidays
- A collaborative team culture that values autonomy, growth, and execution
A Note to Candidates:
You don’t have to meet every single requirement to apply. If you’re energized by leading accounting in a high-change, high-impact environment — and excited to scale with a mission-driven GovTech company — we want to hear from you.
