Job Description

Vanor Corporation

Role:

CTO / Founding Engineer

Industry:

Energy / Insurance Technology

Stage

: Pre Seed

Start

: Immediate

Early stage. High ownership \& equity upfront. Boston/NYC preferred.

Mission:

We are building the first AI-powered power market congestion intelligence and insurance platform for renewable energy producers. As founding engineer and CTO, you will architect and build the platform that sits at the intersection of energy data, AI, and insurance infrastructure, from the first line of code to a scalable, enterprise-grade product.

If you've built AI driven \& data software products in Energy, InsurTech, or data infrastructure and you're ready to go again with more responsibility \& equity ownership - we want to talk to you.

What you will own

  • Architect the end-to-end platform: ISO/RTO data ingestion pipelines, loss calculation engine, AI forecasting models, and the customer-facing analytics dashboard
  • Build and ship a production MVP within 60–90 days, a working congestion tracking dashboard for the first 3–5 pilot customers
  • Design the AI/ML layer: train power prediction models on ISO data, weather feeds, and node-level generation records
  • Integrate with US power grids CAISO OASIS, ERCOT APIs, MISO Market Reports, and SCADA / smart meter data sources
  • Build the claims adjudication engine that auto-calculates and documents insurable curtailment losses for the insurance product
  • Own cloud infrastructure (Google, AWS etc), security, SOC 2 readiness, and data privacy compliance
  • Hire and lead the engineering team as the company scales from 0 to Series A and beyond
  • Sit at the founding table: shape product strategy, go-to-market decisions, and investor conversations as a true co-founder

Past Experiences

  • 3\+ years of software engineering, with at least 6\+ months in a hands-on technical leadership or founding role at Ex Y Combinator or funded startup.
  • Demonstrated experience building and shipping data-intensive SaaS products from scratch, you have done 0-to-1 before
  • Proficiency in Python (FastAPI or Django), PostgreSQL / TimescaleDB, and REST API design, these are the core stack
  • Hands-on experience working with large time-series datasets, energy telemetry, financial data, IoT sensor streams, or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of ML/AI: you have trained, validated, and deployed a predictive model in a production environment
  • Cloud infrastructure ownership, you have architected and managed Google Cloud or similar environments, not just written code on top of them

Startup DNA:

  • Comfortable with ambiguity, willing to write production code yourself in year one, and energized by building from zero.
  • Background at an energy tech company, grid analytics firm, utility, or renewable developer (AutoGrid, Stem, Arcadia, Palantir Energy, or similar)
  • Experience building InsurTech platforms: policy management systems, claims engines, parametric trigger logic, or MGA technology stacks
  • Previous co-founder or founding team engineer at a venture-backed startup, you know what it takes to survive the first 18 months

Compensation \& Equity

Equity only until first raise \& revenue from paying customers, which is an active priority for the founding team. Common stock in a Delaware C-Corp. Four year vest, one year cliff. Significant founding equity reflecting the CTO co-founder seat.
