Carpenter/General Construction Worker

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Assistant Director of Facility Management

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.; frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in various physical positions; ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, ability to safely operate tools and equipment associated with construction and carpentry.

Hours of Work: Full time, 37\.5 hours per week. Additional hours and on call as required as assigned.

Job Summary: The Carpenter/General Construction Worker is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks associated with the construction, repair, and maintenance of agency buildings, structures, and infrastructure. This position requires strong technical expertise, the ability to read and follow construction plans, and a commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship. The role also involves collaboration with a variety of staff and program personnel to support the agency's operational and program needs.

Pay Range: $30\.00- $40\.50

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in carpentry, construction, or a related skilled trade required.
  • Ability to accurately read, understand, and follow blueprints and construction plans
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools and general construction equipment required.
  • Valid NYS driver's license that meets agency requirements.
  • Must speak, read and write the English language.
  • Ability to perform accurate measurements and basic job-related mathematical calculations required.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain the OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification within agency-defined timelines.

Major Responsibilities

  • Perform physical labor to construct, install, repair, and maintain buildings, structures, fixtures, and agency infrastructure.
  • Utilize CMMS to track time and work progress while managing projects to meet budget expectations.
  • Read, understand, and follow blueprints, drawings, specifications, and written or verbal instructions from supervisors and project managers.
  • Ensure all work is completed with precision and meets established quality standards, building codes, and project specifications.
  • Use basic mathematical skills to complete accurate measurements, calculate material needs, and perform job-related calculations.
  • Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials using proper carpentry and construction techniques.
  • Safely operate a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
  • Assist with routine inspections and identify repair or maintenance needs as they arise.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas and follow all safety standards, procedures, and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
