The opportunity

A major transaction is underway in the Australian resources sector, and the business at the centre of it is now looking for a permanent Regional CIO to lead technology across a significant portfolio of operational assets. This is not a transition-only engagement. It is a long-term, senior leadership role that begins at a pivotal moment, with a live carve-out underway, and stays with the organisation as the regional technology function matures and scales.

What you'll be doing:

The role operates across two meaningful phases. In the first, you'll be the permanent local technology authority during the TSA transition. You're the person who keeps five mine sites stable and safe while applications, infrastructure, and enterprise systems are carved out of the seller's environment and brought under your organisation's control. You'll work alongside the Transition Management Office, own operational readiness sign-off for each migration wave, and be the bridge between global workstream leads and the operational realities on the ground.

In the second, you'll own the regional technology agenda outright. That means the multi-year IT and OT maturity roadmap, the regional team and vendor ecosystem, the cybersecurity posture, and the data and analytics capability across all five sites. You'll report into the Global CIO and act as the primary technology partner to site general managers and operational leaders across Queensland.

The scope spans IT infrastructure, operational technology (SCADA, IIoT, historian platforms), cloud and ERP environments, cybersecurity, and data, in a multi-site, remote, safety-critical settings.

What we're looking for:

You'll be someone who is equally at home in a boardroom and on a mine site: a technologist who leads with credibility, stays calm under acquisition pressure, and builds trust without needing formal authority over every room they walk into.

Specifically, you'll bring:

• 10\+ years in senior technology leadership, with a clear track record in mining, heavy industry, or comparable asset-intensive environments
• Hands-on experience across both IT and OT domains. You understand the boundary, the safety implications, and how to govern it
• Experience leading technology through a post-acquisition, carve-out, or major platform transition
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, and the ability to govern cloud-hosted workloads and challenge architects and vendors with confidence
• Solid cybersecurity leadership across policy, risk, audit readiness, and incident response, with working knowledge of ISO 27001 and NIST frameworks
• Experience managing MSP and vendor ecosystems at regional level
• The executive communication skills to represent complex technology risk to non-technical operational leaders and a global C-suite
• Knowledge of Australian SOCI and critical infrastructure obligations, SAP S/4HANA, and enterprise data and analytics platforms would be highly regarded.
