About the Company

Zapp EV is building a new kind of EV charging destination. Our vision is to create premium, high-functioning charging hubs that combine dependable charging infrastructure with a better customer experience, stronger brand presence, and real operational discipline. We are not approaching charging as a parking-lot utility. We are building flagship locations designed to feel intentional, trusted, and commercially relevant. Our first flagship is being developed as a high-visibility proof point for the company — supporting charging, customer experience, partner activation, investor confidence, and long-term expansion. The MVP is already being built.

About the Role

The Chief Technology Officer will own Zapp EV’s technical architecture, platform evolution, and long-term engineering direction. This is not a management-first CTO role. It is a hands-on, backend / systems-first executive role for someone who wants meaningful ownership, deep architectural responsibility, and direct influence over flagship launch and early company formation.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the MVP and evolve it into production infrastructure
  • Define and own system architecture
  • Enforce reliability, payment integrity, and operational clarity
  • Stay hands-on in the early phase without relying on a large team
  • Build the technical foundation for long-term scale

Required Skills

  • Strong experience as a backend / systems-first engineer
  • Proven history of building real systems from zero to production
  • Experience with:
  • payment systems
  • infrastructure-connected systems
  • hardware-integrated or real-world operational platforms

  • simplicity vs overengineering
  • modular monolith / practical early architecture
  • failure handling and system correctness

  • Comfortable operating in an early-stage environment with limited team size
  • Comfortable being accountable for both architecture and execution
  • Able to function as an executive while staying technically deep

Preferred Skills

  • We care more about the pattern than the brand name, but strong candidates may come from backgrounds involving:
  • fintech infrastructure
  • EV / charging / mobility systems
  • logistics platforms
  • IoT / hardware-connected systems
  • systems where downtime or incorrect behavior had real-world consequences

Pay range and compensation package

Pre-close base salary: $140,000–$150,000 annualized

Post-first-close base salary: $200,000 annualized

Equity: 2\.5%–4\.0%, depending on experience, stage fit, and demonstrated capacity to lead architecture through flagship launch and early scale

Vesting: Standard 4-year vesting with 1-year cliff

Bonus: Performance-based executive bonus opportunity tied to major company and technical milestones

Pre-close cash compensation is intentionally leaner and steps up upon first close, offset by meaningful equity participation and milestone-based executive upside.
