About the Role

We’re hiring a strategic, hands-on Controller to support our growing base of clients with complex accounting, internal controls, and financial oversight. You’ll work directly with business owners, CFOs, and investment partners to lead the monthly close, improve financial operations, and deliver clean, investor-ready reporting. This is a remote, client-facing role that starts on a contractor basis, with potential to grow into a full-time position if there’s mutual fit.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee month-end close, consolidations, and financial reporting for multiple client entities
• Manage and review AR/AP, deferred revenue, prepaid expenses, accruals, and fixed assets
• Develop and enforce accounting policies, internal controls, and documentation standards
• Build cash flow forecasts and support budgeting processes for client businesses
• Serve as a strategic advisor to clients on financial planning, variance analysis, and KPI tracking
• Coordinate with client leadership, external auditors, tax professionals, and internal teams
• Oversee accounting system implementations, cleanups, and onboarding of new clients
• Train, review, and manage junior accounting staff or offshore support, as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
• 7\+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2\+ years in a controller or senior accounting leadership role
• Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and accounting best practices across industries
• Proven ability to manage multiple client accounts or business units simultaneously
• Strong financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis skills
• Experience presenting to executives, founders, and/or investor groups
• Excellent communication skills and comfort working in a fully remote environment
• Highly organized, self-directed, and deadline-driven
• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel/Google Sheets

Nice to Have

• CPA license strongly preferred
• Experience in a client-facing or multi-entity environment
• Familiarity with ERP/accounting platforms like Sage, NetSuite, or Xero
• Exposure to private equity-backed companies, family office reporting, or M\&A-related transitions
• Experience working with offshore teams or supporting post-acquisition integration

Compensation

• Competitive compensation based on experience and structure (W-2 or 1099)
