About the Role
Staff Accountant – Assistant Controller Growth Track
Reports to: Controller
The Staff Accountant is a key member of the finance team responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the integrity of the organization’s accounting operations. This role compiles and analyzes financial data, performs account reconciliations, assists with month-end and year-end close processes, and maintains thorough documentation for accounts receivable and accounts payable.
In addition to ensuring transactional accuracy, the Staff Accountant serves as an internal control steward—reviewing invoices, verifying compliance with accounting policies, and ensuring proper procedures are followed for the receipt and recording of payments for goods and services.
This position is designed as a growth-track opportunity for a high-potential professional who demonstrates strong analytical skills, ownership, and leadership capability. Over time, the individual will expand responsibilities to include financial reporting, process improvement, oversight of accounting functions, and strategic support to leadership, with the goal of developing into the Assistant Controller role.
Responsibilities
- Preparing journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations, and assisting with monthly close processes.
- Contributing to the development and review of accounting policies and procedures.
- Maintaining documentation for accounts payable and receivable.
- Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Meeting processing and reporting deadlines.
- Responding to information requests.
- Ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Generating invoices and accounts statements.
- Posts customer payments by recording cash, check, and credit card transactions.
- Tracks revenues by verifying and entering transactions from deposits.
- Verifies validity of account discrepancies by obtaining and investigating information from Sales and operations team.
- Resolves valid or authorized deductions by entering adjusting entries.
- Resolves invalid or unauthorized deductions by following pending deductions procedures.
- Resolves collections by examining customer payment terms, payment history, and credit lines.
- Maintains all accounts receivable reports, spreadsheets, and corporate AR files.
- Bank statement reconciliations.
- Other projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Required Skills
- Excellent understanding of the Order-to-Cash process.
- Experience with Cash Posting.
- A high degree of accuracy.
- Strong Work Ethic.
- Great attention to detail.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Working knowledge of GAAP.
- Comfortable working with budgets, payroll, revenue, and forecasting.
- Experience with full-cycle closing.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
Preferred Skills
- Double-entry bookkeeping: 2 years (Required).
- Logistics: 1 year (Required).
Pay range and compensation package
Pay: $70,000\.00 - $80,000\.00 per year
