Back End Developer

Backend Software Engineer - Build the technology that powers exceptional digital experiences.

We're looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our Digital team and play a key role in developing, integrating, and maintaining the systems that support a suite of customer-facing digital products and experiences.

Working alongside frontend developers, designers, and internal stakeholders, you'll build scalable services, APIs, integrations, and cloud-based solutions that deliver high-performance digital experiences while ensuring security, reliability, and maintainability.

What you'll be doing

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend applications, APIs and integrations.
• Develop and support content, media, search and data services that power digital products.
• Integrate content management systems, third-party platforms and cloud services.
• Collaborate closely with frontend developers to deliver seamless user experiences.
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes and development automation.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and optimise applications to ensure performance and reliability.
• Contribute to cloud infrastructure, security, scalability and operational best practices.
• Produce clear technical documentation and share knowledge across the team.
• Work with stakeholders to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.

What you'll bring

• Commercial experience developing backend applications and APIs.
• Strong skills in Python, JavaScript or similar backend technologies.
• Experience building and supporting cloud-based solutions across AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
• Experience with databases, CMS platforms and third-party integrations.
• Strong understanding of application security, scalability and performance optimisation.
• Ability to work effectively with frontend developers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a practical, solutions-focused mindset.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
