Job Description

The Research Scientist IV is a dedicated, full-time research leader within the Division of Cardiovascular Surgery, providing advanced scientific leadership in pediatric and congenital cardiovascular surgery. Reporting directly to and under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Velez, the Research Scientist IV will be responsible for advancing the Division's research priorities, meeting annual scholarly expectations, and leading collaborative clinical and translational research programs that support the Heart Center's academic mission. The incumbent will lead and support clinical research initiatives that advance patient care and the academic mission of the Heart Center, utilizing institutional databases, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Congenital Heart Surgery Database, and investigator-initiated research projects. The incumbent will independently design and lead complex research studies, serve as a senior collaborator, oversee laboratory operations and personnel, and participate in clinical productivity reviews, didactic conferences, multidisciplinary rounds, and educational activities. The position is responsible for publishing research findings, developing grant proposals, securing research funding, and collaborating across the Heart Center to advance innovative, high-quality research.
