Job Description

Role Summary

Aubay are seeking an experienced Data Architect to join a leading financial services organisation on a major data transformation journey. The successful candidate will work closely with the Data Office and key business stakeholders across multiple regions and will be responsible for designing and delivering a modern data platform from the ground up, shaping the organisation’s data architecture to support evolving business and regulatory needs. The Data Architect will bring a strong combination of architecture governance experience, cloud data platform expertise, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decisions and drive alignment in a complex, regulated environment.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 8–10\+ years of overall IT experience, with at least 3–4 years in architecture roles
  • Proven experience in data platform design, cloud transformation, and migration programs
  • Strong experience with architecture governance, including design validation, reviews, and adherence to standards
  • Solid understanding of cloud-native architecture principles
  • Experience designing modern data architectures (data lakes, lakehouse, distributed systems)
  • Exposure to proof of concept (PoC) development
  • Knowledge of object storage and distributed processing frameworks
  • Familiarity with technologies such as: PySpark, Dremio, Apache Iceberg, Apache Airflow, S3/object storage concepts, IBM Cloud (or willingness to upskill)
  • Experience in financial services or highly regulated environments
  • Strong understanding of data regulations including GDPR and BCBS239
  • Experience in data governance, data quality, and data protection frameworks
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to work with Product Owners, Project and Programme Managers, Chief Data Officer (CDO) / Data Office, cross-border teams
  • Ability to balance technical best practices with organisational constraints
  • Familiarity with TOGAF methodology and architecture lifecycle processes

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with IBM Cloud environments
  • TOGAF certification (or equivalent)
  • Experience working in international or multi-entity organisations
  • Understanding of data lineage and advanced regulatory frameworks

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver the

target data architecture

for cloud transformation initiatives

  • Lead

migration strategy

from legacy systems to modern data platforms

  • Design

end-to-end data solutions

aligned with business, regulatory, and architectural standards

  • Establish and maintain

architecture governance practices

, including design reviews and approvals

  • Develop and maintain

data architecture roadmaps and strategic vision

  • Ensure compliance with

data integrity, quality, and protection standards

  • Collaborate closely with the

Data Office and Chief Data Officer (CDO)

to align IT systems with data policies

  • Act as a client representative in

international data and architecture forums

  • Work with stakeholders to

align architectural decisions with business needs and constraints

  • Provide

architectural guidance to engineering teams

, supporting implementation and best practices

  • Evaluate and recommend technologies

within organisational constraints, ensuring scalable and sustainable solutions
