Junior Backend Engineer

An early-career backend engineering role: strong fundamentals, AI-native development, fast learning and real production experience. Sydney-based, global team.

Enterprise AI is a Sydney startup helping organisations put AI to work — properly.

We're a small, sharp team across Sydney, Manila and New York, and we build the way we tell our clients to: AI agents do a large share of the engineering work, and humans direct, review and ship.

THE ROLE

We're looking for an early-career Backend Engineer who wants to grow fast.

You might have around 1–2 years of commercial engineering experience and be looking for your next step.

We don't expect you to know our entire stack on day one. What matters more is strong engineering fundamentals, curiosity, learning speed and evidence that you have already contributed to real software.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers while building backend systems in an AI-native development environment.

YOU WILL

• Build and improve backend services and APIs
• Work with Python and/or TypeScript
• Work with databases and learn our microservices architecture
• Contribute to software that is deployed into production
• Learn cloud, DevOps, CI/CD and data management practices
• Use AI coding tools as part of your everyday development workflow
• Review and improve AI-generated code rather than blindly accepting it
• Write tests, fix bugs and improve code quality
• Learn our architecture quickly and take on more ownership as you grow
• Work closely with engineers across Sydney and Manila

YOU

• Around 1–2 years of commercial software engineering experience
• Strong software engineering fundamentals
• Experience with Python and/or TypeScript
• Basic understanding of databases and API design
• Have contributed to software that reached production
• Some exposure to DevOps, CI/CD or cloud environments
• Strong problem-solving ability
• Comfortable learning new technologies quickly
• Interested in AI-assisted software development
• Curious, accountable and happy working in a fast-moving startup environment

NICE TO HAVE

• Azure, AWS or GCP experience
• Microservices
• Automated testing
• Identity and access management
• Infrastructure or security knowledge
• Experience with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or other AI coding tools

• Base salary $95k \+ super

WORKING WITH US

This role is based in Sydney and works 5 days per week from our Sydney office.

You'll work closely with experienced engineers and have the opportunity to develop quickly across backend engineering, cloud and AI-native development.
