Data Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a senior-level professional who operates with a high degree of ownership, initiative, and technical depth. This role sits at the intersection of Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, and IT Analytics, supporting mission-critical systems across the Department of the Navy environment.

This individual will not only execute but also help shape solutions, working directly with stakeholders to translate complex requirements into actionable data products. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can operate independently, contribute to system-level thinking, and grow into a mentor for others over time.

You will play a key role in managing system inventory and compliance tracking, supporting data flows into enterprise platforms like Advana, and building dashboards that drive visibility and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage system inventory and compliance tracking across the DoW system landscape
• Support and understand data pipelines feeding into platforms such as Advana and other general ledger systems
• Partner with financial leads and stakeholders to gather and refine requirements
• Translate business needs into dashboards and data visualizations (Qlik preferred)
• Perform data engineering tasks within Databricks environments
• Contribute to and operate within GitHub-based workflows and version control practices
• Deliver solutions in a client-facing environment, balancing technical execution with stakeholder communication

• Strong experience across:

+ Data Engineering

+ Data Visualization / Dashboarding

• Hands-on experience with:

+ Databricks

• Proven ability to:

+ Translate business requirements into technical solutions

+ Communicate effectively with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders

+ Work independently with minimal oversight

• Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability, and ownership mindset

• Experience with:

• Familiarity with:

+ Department of the Navy (DoW) systems

+ Compliance tracking frameworks

Additional Details

This role is remote-first, with an expectation of approximately one onsite day per month for collaboration and client engagement.
