Data Engineer - Hatch Bank

We are looking for a Data Engineer with strong experience in Azure Synapse, SQL Server \& Power BI. The ideal candidate will be a creative-problem solver, solution driven, in designing, developing, and delivering end-to-end data solutions, leveraging AI and automation tools, that support business intelligence and operational reporting needs. This role involves working directly with business units to gather project requirements, translating them into technical specifications, and delivering scalable solutions using Azure Synapse, SQL and Power BI. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on developer with strong analytical skills and a passion for transforming data into actionable insights.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

This position reports directly to the Director of Data, Reporting, and Analytics and on a day-to-day basis, will work independently, collaboratively (with Hatch team members, third-party FinTechs, and/or Hatch’s critical vendors), or as otherwise instructed by the Director of Data Engineering, on specific duties which may include the following based on departmental and bank priorities:

• Design, develop, and maintain Azure SQL databases, stored procedures, and Azure Synapse ETL pipelines.
• Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights.
• Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and performance across all reporting solutions.
• Manage Power BI Online Workspaces and ensure scheduled data refreshes are functioning.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders through clear discussions and presentations to gather, define, and articulate project scope, requirements, and deliverables.
• Translate business needs into technical specifications by communicating effectively with cross-functional partners to ensure alignment on data models and project direction.
• Provide technical guidance on best practices for data visualization and reporting.
• Document data models, processes, and reporting logic for internal use and compliance.
• Support ad-hoc data analysis and reporting requests from business units.
• Articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences using clear, persuasive language and demonstrated ability to understand stakeholder perspectives.

Physical And Sensory Requirements

While performing the essential functions of this position, the incumbent is subject to sedentary work for extended periods of time. Some mobility in order to access files and attend meetings is necessary. The incumbent must be able to operate a computer terminal and office equipment and communicate and exchange information to internal and external customers.

Education, Training And Experience

• 3\+ years of experience in full-stack development with a focus on Azure Synapse, SQL Server, and Power BI.
• Strong proficiency in T-SQL, data modeling, and performance tuning.
• Experience with Power BI, DAX, and Power Query.
• Ability to gather and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Passion for solving complex problems with data and technology.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with financial products and services (e.g., lending, deposits).
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices.
• Previous experience with Snowflake, Databricks, Apache and other ML automation tools is a plus.

Pay Range: Hatch Bank demonstrates fair, competitive, and market-based compensation for our employees. The compensation for this role includes a base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $120,000 as well as eligibility for other bonus programs. The pay range may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills, experience, and work location.
