Scope of Role
Gas Path Commodities like Intake systems, ducts, resonators. Exhaust manifolds, pipes, mufflers, after‑treatment interfaces. Turbocharger interfaces and EGR connections.
Area of Responsibility
- The Lead Engineer – Gas Path Systems is responsible for end‑to‑end technical leadership and delivery of gas path components within the automotive powertrain domain. The role owns system definition, design maturity, integration, validation, and launch readiness of intake and exhaust gas path commodities from concept through SOP, ensuring compliance with performance, emissions, durability, cost, and regulatory targets.
- Act as Lead Engineer for gas path commodities across the complete KO to SOP lifecycle
- Own technical delivery and design responsibility for gas path systems including:
- Intake systems, ducts, resonators
- Exhaust manifolds, pipes, mufflers, after‑treatment interfaces
- Turbocharger interfaces and EGR connections (as applicable)
- Define and manage system and component‑level requirements, interfaces, and specifications
- Lead gas path architecture, packaging, and vehicle integration activities
- Ensure compliance with emissions, thermal, NVH, durability, and regulatory requirements
- Drive design reviews, technical decision‑making, and engineering change management
- Own and execute DVP\&R, validation planning, and testing activities
- Lead DFMEA, risk assessments, and corrective actions for gas path components
- Coordinate cross‑functional teams including NVH, thermal, emissions, calibration, manufacturing, and vehicle integration
- Manage supplier technical development, reviews, timelines, and issue resolution
- Support industrialization, manufacturing feasibility, and launch readiness
- Act as the primary technical interface to OEM customers for gas path topics
Knowledge / Experience – 3 to 10 Years
Essential:
- Proven experience leading engineering programs from KO to SOP
- Demonstrated capability as a System / Commodity / Lead Engineer
- Technical \& Domain Expertise
- Gas Path Systems:
- Intake and exhaust architecture
- Airflow management, pressure loss, and thermal behavior
- Exhaust after‑treatment interfaces and packaging
- Strong understanding of:
- Emissions and regulatory requirements (global OEM regulations)
- Thermal management and heat shielding concepts
- NVH and durability considerations
- Vehicle packaging and under‑body integration
- Working knowledge or awareness of:
- Functional safety and validation methodologies
- Manufacturing and assembly constraints
Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Automotive Engineering or related discipline.
