Job Description

Position Summary

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the chief staff executive of the Englewood Area Board of

REALTORS®, Inc. (“the Association”), responsible to the Board of Directors for the overall

management, financial health, and strategic direction of the organization. The CEO carries out

the policies and directives of the Board, ensures the Association meets all NAR Core Standards

and remains in good standing with Florida REALTORS® and the National Association of

REALTORS®, and serves as the primary day-to-day leader of staff, programs, member

services, and operations.

The CEO recommends and helps shape the Association’s mission, goals, and policies, and is

expected to operate as a forward-looking leader, not just an administrator — growing non-dues

revenue, modernizing operations and technology, and increasing the value the Association

delivers to its members.

Core Standards \& Compliance (Critical)

Maintaining the Association’s charter depends on annual compliance with NAR Core Standards.

This is a primary, non-delegable responsibility of the CEO.

  • Owns the annual NAR Core Standards Certification process end to end — tracking

documentation throughout the year, completing the certification form, and submitting to

Florida REALTORS® ahead of all deadlines.

  • Ensures compliance across all five Core Standards categories: Code of Ethics, Advocacy,

Consumer Outreach, Governance/Operations/Training, and Financial Solvency.

  • Administers required REALTOR® Code of Ethics training and tracks member completion.
  • Maintains current association leadership policies (antitrust, harassment, conflict of interest,

confidentiality, code of conduct, whistleblower) and delivers the required annual training to

elected officers and the Board.

  • Maintains and enforces the Association’s cybersecurity / data security policy, including

handling of member PII and payment card (PCI) data.

  • Keeps member records (NRDS/M1) accurate and updated within required timeframes, and

reconciles membership against the Florida real estate licensee data.

  • Ensures a documented back-up plan exists so Core Standards can be completed even if

the CEO position is temporarily vacant.

Leadership \& Governance

  • Serves as principal advisor to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee; attends all Board and Executive Committee meetings in an advisory, non-voting capacity.
  • Keeps the Board fully informed of the Association’s financial condition, operations, risks, and any factors affecting the organization.
  • Recommends policies, programs, and an annual strategic plan that advance the
  • Association’s mission and member value.
  • Executes all decisions and directives of the Board of Directors.
  • Maintains an active working relationship with Association legal counsel to protect the legal integrity of the organization.
  • Ensures accurate minutes and secure custody of all official, legal, financial, and historical
  • records; maintains a working knowledge of the Association’s bylaws and Robert’s Rules of Order.

Financial Management

  • Works with the Board and Finance Committee to prepare, recommend, and manage the annual budget.
  • Maintains the Association’s financial solvency and provides clear monthly financial reporting to the Board.
  • Oversees the annual audit, review, or compilation as required, and ensures sound internal financial controls.
  • Identifies and develops non-dues revenue opportunities (sponsorships, events, education, affiliate partners) to strengthen the Association’s financial position.

Staff \& Operations

  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and, when necessary, terminates staff; sets position descriptions, performance standards, and a competitive compensation structure.
  • Establishes the organizational structure and administrative policies for the Association office.
  • Fosters a positive, professional work environment and resolves staff conflicts effectively.
  • Oversees the office facility, equipment, technology systems, and vendor relationships.
  • Oversees MLS, lockbox/key system, and related member tools and services, ensuring data integrity and reliable service (coordinating with the applicable MLS as appropriate).

Member Services, Education \& Communications

  • Develops and delivers programs, services, and benefits that are responsive to member needs and demonstrate clear value.
  • Works with the Education Committee to provide professional development, designation, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Oversees member communications — newsletters, email, website, and social media — and maintains a strong public image for the Association.
  • Plans and supports Association events, meetings, and installations.

Advocacy \& External Relations

  • Maintains active relationships with Florida REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS® and represents the Association at state and national meetings.
  • Supports REALTOR® advocacy efforts, including RPAC and local government affairs affecting the real estate industry and private property rights.
  • Serves as a spokesperson for the Association in conjunction with the President.
  • Builds positive relationships with affiliates, partner organizations, and the community.

Qualifications

Required

  • Proven leadership and management experience, ideally with a REALTOR®/trade association, nonprofit, or comparable member-driven organization.
  • Strong financial literacy — budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort with technology — association management software, MLS systems, Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace, and digital communication tools.
  • High personal integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • RCE (REALTOR® Certified Executive) or CAE designation, or willingness to pursue.
  • Knowledge of NAR Core Standards, association governance, and the southwest Florida real estate market.
  • Real estate license or industry background a plus (not required).

Performance Expectations

Performance in this role is measured by, among other things:

  • On-time, fully compliant submission of the annual Core Standards certification.
  • A balanced budget and stable or growing financial reserves.
  • Member satisfaction, retention, and engagement.
  • Effective, well-run staff and operations.
  • Strong standing with Florida REALTORS® and NAR.
