Job Description
FUTUREBRAND AMSTERDAM
Senior Creative Strategist – Spatial Design
Full time, hybrid role with 3 days in our Amsterdam office
FutureBrand Amsterdam
designs for a connected 21st century world that thirsts for the new.
A world in which retail and hospitality are not just places to shop, eat and sleep, but part of a new cultural landscape. Today the psychology of shareable moments drives everything: from design and architecture to service and customer journey.
This emotive customer take-away is just as important as the purchase. That's why our design team blends retail, hospitality and branding with a psychological and emotive approach to design.
We collaborate with the world's biggest brands across diverse industries to reimagine their vision into emotive experiences that redefine categories.
FutureBrand re-imagines consumer experiences for the 21st century.
Job Summary
You will lead strategic vision and conceptual direction for spatial design projects, translating brand strategies into compelling environmental experiences. As the strategic foundation of our creative process, you'll develop strategic frameworks, customer journey insights, and design narratives that inform spatial solutions across retail, hospitality, and workspace environments.
We're seeking a proper strategist
—someone with a proven background in brand strategy who can take a brand concept all the way through to spatial execution. You'll conduct in-depth research and cultural analysis, develop strategic briefs and design frameworks, and most importantly, articulate how you arrived at your strategic thinking. Your role is to mentor teammates, synthesize industry trends and behavioural insights, and communicate strategic recommendations—visually and verbally—ensuring alignment with project goals and client vision.
Required Skills And Experience
Strategic Thinking \& Brand Strategy Foundation:
- Proven background as a Strategist in a brand strategy agency (essential)
- Expertise in developing spatial design strategies and customer journey mapping
- Strong track record translating brand strategy into spatial design and environmental experiences
- Experience conducting market research, consumer psychology research, and cultural analysis to inform spatial solutions
- Proven ability to translate business objectives into compelling spatial design strategies
- Demonstrated experience taking brand concepts from initial strategy through to spatial/environmental design implementation
Conceptual Development \& Strategic Storytelling
- Advanced skills in strategic ideation and creative direction for spatial environments
- Experience developing design frameworks, design systems, and strategic narratives for multi-touchpoint experiences
- Native-level English writing and storytelling skills with ability to articulate concepts in a nuanced, compelling way
- Expertise in translating brand identity into spatial storytelling
- Strong capability in documenting and articulating your strategic thinking process—how you developed ideas, not just the final output
Communication \& Presentation
- Exceptional ability to articulate strategic thinking through compelling presentations, strategic decks, and visual narratives
- Proficiency in presentation tools: Microsoft PowerPoint, Keynote, and Adobe Creative Suite
- Expert in documentation such as strategic briefs, brand guidelines, and design frameworks
- Fluent in both visual and verbal communication of complex strategic concepts
Experience \& Background
- Experience as a Strategist in a brand strategy agency or Strategist in brandside client team (this is essential—we're looking for depth in strategy, not a generalist role)
- Portfolio demonstrating your strategic thinking and strategic process on spatial and brand design projects
- Writing samples showing your tone, style, and conceptual thinking—we want to see how you frame and articulate ideas
- Evidence of strategic development work: mood boards, strategic briefs, concept development, research synthesis, and design frameworks that show your early-stage thinking (not just final renders or finished projects)
- Knowledge of AI tools and emerging technologies in spatial design and visualization (Midjourney, Runway, or similar)—is a nice to have when used to visualise creative thinking
- Experience working with international brands and multidisciplinary teams
- Collaborative mindset with ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams
- Adaptable to different working styles and cultures in an international environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to navigate complex creative challenges
- Passionate about the intersection of psychology, culture, and spatial design
Application Requirements
- PLEASE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING WITH YOUR APPLICATION**
- A link to your portfolio showcasing your strategic work on spatial and brand projects
- 2-3 writing samples that demonstrate your conceptual thinking, storytelling style, and ability to articulate strategic ideas (e.g., strategic briefs, design narratives, concept documents)
- Evidence of your strategic process: Show us how you develop ideas. Include research, mood boards, strategic frameworks, customer journey maps, or concept development work that demonstrates your thinking—not just polished final outputs
APPLICANTS MUST BE AN EU CITIZEN.
