About the Client
Our client is a well-established Japanese asset management firm, part of a major life insurance group, with a growing U.S. equity investment team in Midtown Manhattan. The firm takes a long-term, long-only approach to investing and offers a stable platform where analysts contribute directly to investment decisions.
This search is being conducted by MAX Consulting Group, a New York–based executive search firm specializing in placements with Japanese-affiliated companies in the U.S. since 1994\.
The Role
The Research Analyst will join a small U.S. equity team and take ownership of coverage across sectors. You will research companies, build your own views, and make recommendations directly to portfolio managers and the investment committee. This is an excellent opportunity for an analyst looking to move to, or grow on, the buy-side.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct fundamental research on U.S. listed companies, including strategy, financial performance, competitive positioning and management quality
- Build and maintain financial models, including earnings forecasts, valuation, and scenario and sensitivity analyses
- Develop investment recommendations and present them to portfolio managers and the investment committee
- Monitor covered companies through earnings, guidance and news flow, and update views as needed
- Meet with company management and sell-side analysts to test assumptions
- Support portfolio monitoring and reporting, and help prepare materials for investor and internal meetings
- Work closely with colleagues in New York and Japan, including providing English-language support
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or a related field
- About 1–5 years of experience in U.S. equity research or investment analysis (buy-side or sell-side)
- Strong financial modeling and valuation skills; advanced Excel
- Clear written and verbal communication of investment views
- CFA charterholder or candidate is a plus
- Japanese language is not required
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. The firm can support an H-1B transfer for candidates who currently hold H-1B status, but cannot sponsor a new H-1B petition.
Compensation \& Benefits
- Base salary: $100,000 – $130,000, commensurate with experience, plus a discretionary bonus
- Comprehensive benefits package
- On-site, five days a week in Midtown Manhattan
All inquiries will be handled in strict confidence. Qualified candidates will be contacted by MAX Consulting Group to discuss the opportunity in detail.
