This leadership opportunity offers the chance to join one of the largest independent dermatology organizations in the Greater Houston region during a pivotal period of continued growth and operational evolution. The Practice Administrator / COO will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, partnering closely with physician leadership and finance to support a high-performing, patient-centered, multi-site medical practice known for clinical excellence, innovation, and strong community reputation.

The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated success leading complex ambulatory healthcare operations across multiple locations, with the ability to strengthen organizational performance, support physician recruitment and growth initiatives, and foster accountability throughout the organization. This role requires a collaborative, operationally sophisticated leader who values integrity, teamwork, and service excellence while helping position the practice for continued expansion and long-term independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership and administrative oversight for a large, multi-site dermatology and surgical practice serving more than 100,000 patient visits annually across 11\+ locations.
  • Partner with physician leadership and the CFO as one of the organization’s three senior operational leaders.
  • Lead day-to-day operations across clinical, administrative, and support functions, ensuring consistent performance, accountability, and patient experience standards throughout the organization.
  • Oversee regional managers and operational leaders to ensure practice goals, staffing expectations, and service standards are consistently achieved.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives, including physician recruitment, provider onboarding, practice expansion, and potential future site development.
  • Build and maintain relationships with physicians, referral sources, and healthcare partners throughout the Houston market to strengthen recruitment and business development efforts.
  • Oversee organizational compliance initiatives, including HIPAA, risk management, insurance matters, workforce compliance, and operational policies and procedures.
  • Provide oversight for technology systems, vendor relationships, operational workflows, and practice infrastructure initiatives, including EMR transitions and ongoing systems optimization.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding marketing, patient access, and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Support the continued integration and optimization of CLIA-certified laboratory operations and in-house dermatopathology services.
  • Work closely with physician leadership to maintain a culture centered on patient care, employee engagement, operational excellence, and collaborative decision-making.
  • Travel periodically between practice locations throughout the Greater Houston area to maintain visibility and engagement with physicians, staff, and operational teams.
  • Lead and mentor direct reports while fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and service.

Qualifications \& Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive healthcare operations leadership experience in a multi-site physician practice, ambulatory care organization, surgical practice, or hospital-affiliated medical group.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex multi-location operations with significant provider and employee populations.
  • Experience overseeing operational functions such as compliance, staffing, onboarding, technology systems, vendor management, and organizational performance initiatives.
  • Proven ability to lead through growth, acquisitions, operational scaling, or organizational transformation.
  • Experience supporting physician recruitment, provider relations, and practice development initiatives strongly preferred.
  • Dermatology experience is beneficial but not required; candidates with strong multi-site healthcare operational leadership backgrounds will be considered.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems, ambulatory operations, and healthcare regulatory requirements required.
  • Experience working collaboratively with physician owners and executive leadership teams in an independent practice environment preferred.

Work Environment \& Compensation

This position is based primarily in the Houston metropolitan area and will maintain a regular presence within the organization’s primary administrative office while traveling periodically to regional practice locations.
