DevOps Engineer

Position: Senior DevOps Engineer

Hybrid: 3 days onsite (Detroit, MI)

We are seeking a skilled Senior DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in bridging the gap between development and operations, ensuring seamless software deployment and system reliability. The ideal candidate will have a strong development background and extensive experience in DevOps, CI/CD, cloud technologies, and managing large-scale production systems.

Key Responsibilities

CI/CD Engineering

• Design, implement, and maintain resilient CI/CD pipelines in GitLab CI/CD for build, test, security scanning, and deployments.

Infrastructure as Code

• Provision and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform and YAML-based configurations.
• Build reusable modules and establish environment baselines.

Kubernetes/OpenShift Administration

• Operate and optimize OpenShift/Kubernetes clusters, including lifecycle management, namespaces, networking (Ingress/Service Mesh), secrets, and RBAC.

Cloud Platform (AWS) Enablement

• Support AWS migration planning and execution.
• Implement core AWS services: EKS, EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM with a focus on security and cost efficiency.

Scripting \& Tooling

• Build automation and platform tooling using Python, Bash, or Go to reduce toil and improve reliability and observability.

Security \& Compliance

• Embed security-by-default guardrails (policy as code, image scanning, SAST/DAST, SBOMs, secrets management).
• Align with compliance and governance requirements.

Collaboration \& Support

• Partner with development, operations, and security teams to drive adoption of platform capabilities.
• Troubleshoot pipeline and platform issues and implement continuous improvements.

Documentation \& Enablement

• Produce clear documentation, self-service guides, and reference implementations.
• Lead internal workshops or office hours to support developers.

Qualifications

• 3\+ years in a Platform, DevOps, or Infrastructure Engineering role within cloud-native, containerized environments
• Expertise with GitLab CI/CD pipelines for micro-UIs, microservices, and API gateways (Kong/Apigee)
• Hands-on production experience administering Kubernetes and/or OpenShift
• Practical AWS experience with core services (EKS preferred)
• Strong scripting in Python, Bash, or Go
• Proficiency with Terraform (required), including reusable modules and state management
• Familiarity with container build/registry workflows
• Experience with blue/green and canary deployments
• Solid understanding of networking (DNS, TLS, routing) and cloud/container security principles
• Strong problem-solving, ownership mindset, and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience migrating workloads from OpenShift to AWS/EKS
• Red Hat OpenShift certification and/or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
• AWS Solutions Architect Associate or AWS DevOps Engineer Professional certification
