Executive Director of Data Science

A global leader in professional information services and advanced analytics is seeking a strategic leader to head their Data Science division in Raleigh, North Carolina. Our client is a pioneer in the legal technology sector, utilizing sophisticated AI and machine learning to revolutionize the industry across more than 150 countries. This is a dedicated on site role based in the Raleigh region.

In this pivotal leadership position, you will move beyond technical execution to shape the functional strategy of the business. You will be responsible for defining the long term data science vision, creating high level roadmaps, and aligning diverse stakeholders to drive organizational change through data driven decision making.

Key Responsibilities

Build and mentor a high performing department of more than 15 data scientists and managers, fostering a culture of continuous development.

Direct advanced research initiatives focused on Large Language Models, Natural Language Processing, and emerging generative AI technologies.

Oversee the full lifecycle of machine learning solutions, from data collection protocols and advanced predictive modeling to MLOps and production deployment.

Act as a primary liaison to the executive suite, translating complex technical breakthroughs into tangible business value and strategic opportunities.

Define and enforce comprehensive standards for documentation, ethical AI governance, and model reproducibility.

Manage the departmental budget and resource allocation to ensure infrastructure meets the needs of enterprise scale operations.

Candidate Qualifications

You should hold an advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field. An MBA is considered a significant advantage.

We require a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the AI or machine learning space, with at least 8 years specifically in people management and leadership roles.

Successful candidates must demonstrate a background in scaling large data science teams and a proven history of delivering AI solutions that impact the bottom line.

Deep technical fluency in generative AI, GANs, and LLMs is essential, alongside proficiency in Python, R, and big data technologies.

Experience working within a global or multicultural corporate environment is highly preferred.
