Job Description

DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

Primavolt Energy Infrastructure Services designs, delivers, and operates behind-the-meter and utility-scale power infrastructure — gas turbine generation, battery energy storage (BESS), and solar PV — for hyperscale data centers and large-scale energy users demanding firm, dispatchable power across the U.S.

SUMMARY

The Director of Engineering is a senior technical leader at Primavolt, responsible for directing engineering execution, driving technical quality, and developing the engineering team across behind-the-meter power, gas turbine, BESS, and solar PV programs. This leader owns day-to-day engineering delivery — from power systems design and equipment selection through construction support and commissioning — and manages a team of engineers and technical leads across disciplines.

The role bridges technical execution and project commercial performance: supporting OEM coordination, contributing to technology decisions, and ensuring engineering deliverables align with project schedule, budget, and client requirements. Reports to the EVP of Engineering and works closely with Project Management, Procurement, and Business Development.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS \& RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead engineering execution across aeroderivative gas turbine (simple-cycle and combined-cycle), LFP-based grid-scale BESS, utility-scale solar PV, and emissions compliance systems (SCR, oxidation catalyst, CEMS)
  • Manage and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team, including direct oversight of engineers and technical leads across electrical, mechanical, civil/structural, and environmental disciplines
  • Own engineering deliverables for assigned projects — design packages, technical specifications, equipment datasheets, and construction support documentation — on schedule and within budget
  • Support technical due diligence on project acquisitions, OEM partnerships, and supply chain evaluations, including power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protection coordination) and interconnection assessments (ERCOT, MISO, PJM, WECC)
  • Evaluate and implement engineering tools and workflows — BIM, power flow modeling, relay coordination, BMS/EMS integration — to improve quality and delivery efficiency
  • Serve as a key technical point of contact with clients, OEM partners (GE Vernova, Siemens, CATL, BYD, SMA), and EPC subcontractors on assigned projects
  • Develop and enforce engineering standards and QA/QC processes across electrical (HV/MV switchgear, protection \& control), mechanical (turbine BOP, HRSG), and civil/structural scopes
  • Provide technical input to procurement and commercial teams, including OEM-agnostic equipment sourcing, long-lead procurement planning, and EPC contract technical review
  • Foster a high-performance engineering culture grounded in technical rigor, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline; M.S. preferred; PE license a plus
  • 10\+ years of progressive engineering experience in power generation or energy infrastructure, with hands-on expertise across gas turbines, BESS, and/or utility-scale solar PV
  • 5\+ years in a direct technical leadership role, including management of engineers or technical leads
  • Solid grounding in power systems engineering: protection and coordination, HV/MV switchgear, interconnection standards, NEC/NFPA 70E, NERC reliability standards, and SCR/emissions compliance
  • Familiarity with behind-the-meter power architecture for data center and critical facility clients in the 50–500 MW range
  • Experience supporting technical due diligence for project acquisitions, OEM commercial arrangements, or EPC subcontractor qualification
  • Strong communication skills — able to convey technical scope, risk, and progress clearly to project managers, clients, and senior leadership

Demonstrated ability to develop and mentor engineering talent in a fast-paced project environment
