Director of Information Technology, Security, and Systems
LABUR is partnering with a client—a global engineering firm undergoing a strategic reorganization—to identify a Director of Information Technology, Security, and Systems. This leader will own the full technology and information security function: setting strategy, designing architecture, running the security program, and building the team to deliver it all. The ideal candidate combines executive presence with genuine technical depth, equally comfortable advising the CEO on risk posture and diagramming how identity should flow across the enterprise. The IT team is lean and poised for growth, so this person must stay close to the work—providing clear, specific direction, solving problems as they surface, and executing alongside staff with a strong service orientation.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the enterprise IT and information security strategy, aligning technology investments with business objectives across global offices
- Design clear target-state architectures—particularly for identity, access, and authentication—and deliver phased, milestone-driven migration plans with measurable pace
- Own the information security program end to end: identity and access management, controls, policy, security awareness training, posture reporting to leadership, and response to client security questionnaires and contractual requirements
- Lead change management across sites, teams, and executive peers, earning buy-in for modernization initiatives and centralized standards
- Oversee day-to-day IT operations including end-user support, networks, endpoints, telephony, and engineering software licensing while maintaining high service levels
- Maintain and validate incident response plans, tested backups, and disaster recovery capabilities to ensure rapid business continuity
- Manage relationships with managed service providers, SaaS vendors, and third-party contractors, including contract negotiations and third-party risk assessments
- Guide the optimization and modernization of information and communication systems—including databases, LIMS, ERP, and collaboration platforms—and lead adoption of emerging technologies such as AI to streamline operations
Qualifications
Required
- 12\+ years in information technology and/or information security, including at least 5 years leading a function and managing teams
- Senior-level accountability spanning both IT operations and information security—not one or the other
- Hands-on identity and access management experience: directory services, single sign-on, and multi-factor authentication across Microsoft, Google, and Apple/Mac environments (Mac-heavy endpoint fleet)
- Proven track record leading a multi-site or multi-region technology migration or consolidation end to end
- Experience owning a technology budget and managing vendor relationships and contracts
- Clear, confident communicator with executives and non-technical stakeholders; able to travel to approximately six global sites as needed
Preferred
- Background in engineering, manufacturing, or professional services firms with distributed offices
- Working knowledge of a recognized security framework such as NIST CSF or ISO 27001; certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or ITIL
- Experience introducing centralized IT standards and service automation into decentralized organizations
