Director of Product

Valor PayTech

Experience:

15–18 Years (depending on domain proficiency and other factors)

Job Type:

Full Time

Location:

United States — Fully Remote

Reports To:

Chief Product and Technology Officer

Role Overview

Valor PayTech is seeking a Director of Product to own the vision, strategy, and end-to-end delivery of our payments product portfolio in an omni-channel environment. Reporting to the Chief Product and Technology Officer, this role sets product direction, leads a team of Product Managers and Technical Product Managers, and is accountable for moving initiatives through the full product lifecycle—from ideation and discovery, through opportunity and value assessment, planning, development, and release management, into go-to-market and post-release product management.

This is a senior, hands-on product leadership role that pairs deep payments domain expertise with disciplined execution against a fast-moving roadmap. It requires strong product craft, tight scrum and release management with extended and remote engineering teams, and the judgment to translate market and customer signals into a defensible, prioritized product direction.

What We’re Looking For

This is a hands-on product leadership role. We are looking for a leader who combines deep payments domain knowledge with product craft, strategic judgment, and operational discipline.

  • Self-Starter —

Operates with autonomy in ambiguity, sets product direction without waiting for it, and owns outcomes end-to-end. Identifies the right problems to solve, frames the opportunity, and drives it to shipped, adopted product.

  • Deeply Product-Driven \& Domain-Expert —

Brings strong, current command of payments acquiring, processing, and merchant services in an omni-channel environment, including POS and payment terminals. Fluent in the full craft of product management and able to engage credibly with engineering, architecture, and customers on technical detail.

  • Strategic —

Connects product decisions to commercial outcomes and company strategy. Builds and defends a prioritized roadmap, makes clear trade-offs, and translates market and customer signals into product direction.

  • Great Administrator —

Runs a disciplined product organization—tight scrum and release management, clear requirements, predictable cadence, and rigorous tracking from discovery through post-release. Holds a team of PMs and TPMs to a consistent, high-quality operating standard.

Key Responsibilities

Product Leadership \& Vision

  • Own the product vision, strategy, and multi-quarter roadmap for Valor PayTech platform across an omni-channel payments environment.
  • Lead full-lifecycle product initiatives—ideation and discovery, opportunity and value assessment, planning, development, release management, go-to-market, and post-release product management.
  • Define and track product success metrics (adoption, revenue, retention, time-to-value) and use them to drive prioritization and trade-off decisions.
  • Establish and continuously improve product discovery, prioritization, and roadmap-governance practices.

FinTech, Payments \& Omni-Channel Product

  • Apply deep knowledge of payments acquiring, processing, and merchant services across card-present, card-not-present, and emerging channels in a true omni-channel model.
  • Own product direction for POS and payment terminal experiences, including device, gateway, and processor integration considerations.
  • Partner with processors, gateways, card networks, and hardware/OEM vendors to shape product capabilities and certification roadmaps.
  • Maintain working fluency in payments standards and regulation (PCI-DSS, card network rules, 3DS, tokenization, fraud management, other) and factor them into product decisions.

Product Operations \& Full-Lifecycle Delivery

  • Partner with extended and remote engineering teams across the full SDLC, running tight scrum from requirements through release and beyond.
  • Translate strategy into crisp requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria; maintain a healthy, prioritized backlog and a predictable release cadence.
  • Own release management and go-to-market readiness, coordinating across engineering, QA, marketing, sales, and operations; drive post-release adoption, measurement, and iteration.
  • Adopt and scale AI tools that demonstrably advance product and engineering team productivity—accelerating discovery, requirement definition, documentation, and delivery—and embed them into the product operating model.

Team Leadership \& Stakeholder Management

  • Build, lead, and develop a team of Product Managers and Technical Product Managers; set standards, coach, and raise the bar on product craft.
  • Operate as a senior partner to engineering, architecture, QA, design, security, sales, and the executive and board audience.
  • Communicate roadmap, trade-offs, and status with clarity and executive presence to both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Represent the voice of the customer—ISOs, merchants, and partners—at every stage of the product lifecycle.

Qualifications:

Required

  • 15–18 years of product management experience (depending on domain proficiency and other factors), with a strong, demonstrable success record across the full product lifecycle.
  • Deep experience in payments acquiring, processing, and merchant services in an omni-channel environment.
  • Hands-on knowledge of POS and payment terminals.
  • Proven success record taking initiatives from ideation and discovery, through opportunity and value assessment, planning, development, and release, into go-to-market and post-release management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading product with extended and remote engineering teams across the full SDLC, with tight scrum and release discipline.
  • Proven experience managing a team of Product Managers and/or Technical Product Managers.
  • Experience applying AI tools that factually advance product and engineering team productivity.

Preferred

  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making; comfort with product analytics, experimentation/A-B testing, and KPI ownership.
  • Commercial and monetization acumen—pricing, packaging, and contribution to revenue and P\&L outcomes.
  • Experience in a platform, multi-tenant, or ISO/merchant and partner-ecosystem model.
  • Working knowledge of payments processors and partners (e.g., TSYS, Fiserv/First Data, Elavon) and gateway/integration patterns.
  • Familiarity with modern product and delivery tooling (e.g., Jira, roadmap and discovery tools) and prioritization frameworks.
  • Technical fluency sufficient to engage architecture and engineering on APIs, integrations, and system design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with strong executive presence.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; MBA or equivalent commercial experience a plus.
