Are you a Heavy Civil Project Engineer looking to take ownership of meaningful scopes on large-scale infrastructure projects rather than just supporting from the sidelines?
Do you want the opportunity to operate more like an Assistant Project Manager where you will manage your own scopes and packages, build relationships with your field crews, and be trusted with real responsibility early in your career?
The Project Engineer is a critical addition to Ames Construction’s Mountain Office and their continued expansion across Colorado. You will support a range of heavy civil and transportation infrastructure projects, working closely with field teams and supporting project leadership while taking ownership of key scope packages.
This is not a purely administrative role. You will be responsible for taking accountability and managing assigned scopes within a project - often significant packages such as utilities or earthwork - handling coordination, cost tracking, and execution alongside experienced project leadership.
Candidate Background, Skills, and Experience
- 2-4\+ years of relevant experience working on heavy civil construction projects
- Preferred Paths:
- Field-up
: Trade/Craft background with hands-on crew experience transitioning into Management/Supervision
- Engineering
: AEC degree or similar experience looking to grow within Construction and General Contracting
- Bachelor’s degree desirable but not essential
- Must be able to oversee project administration such as RFIs and Submittals etc.
- Must be comfortable and able to build strong relationships with field crews/personnel, vendors/subcontractors, owners and internal project leadership
- Comfortable with flexible work schedules, working on-site, and must be willing to travel occasionally when required
- Must possess emotional intelligence, with a team-first attitude and a willingness to step up during critical times
